  1. i was listening to Summerteeth yesterday on the way to work. i have a pretty decent stereo in the car. i still love this record, probably a tie with YHF & Ghost for my favorite Wilco record (not counting live stuff). i was struck by the drums. Ken was a decent drummer & really nice guy but very meat & potatoes on the drums. i can see why Jeff moved on. would love to hear at least some of this record redone in the studio with Glenn on drums. a pipe dream obviously.

  2. i was going to Nels Cline 4 on wednesday but we've been hit by a once a decade winter storm with more coming. lots of shows cancelled. wonder in Nels is even going to make it to seattle. the roads are horrible in town. just got hit by another snow event tonight with another one following tomorrow. hate to say this but glad i didn't by a ticket for the Nels show.

  3. This was the Wilco record I freaked out on. I liked the first 2 but flipped out on this one. I call it Jeff's Brian Wilson record. Still play it a real lot. Hopefullly there will be some sort of anniversary package. Don't want to wait for 25th anniversary! Don't know if I'll be around that long.

  4. Ahh sorry to hear! I’m in a similar boat my biggest regret was leaving a company I was with voluntarily for 11 years for a better job. Since then I have been between jobs and contracting it has been an awful 2 years because the new job didn’t work out. I’m now in the telecom field where everyone is a contractor it seems to be the wave of the future . Good luck in your new job search

I just had my 10 year anniversary in the military/industrial complex. My first reaction was to look for a bridge to jump off of. I view it as penance for having work I liked for 25 years (working in music distribution). I probably have to retire on disability this year as the docs have gone from suggesting to insisting. @ 58 I have no desire to leave that place feet first. Happened to 1 of my few friends at work. Was a year younger. Went to doctor & 7 weeks later was dead. Message received!

  5. congrats to edgar martinez on finally getting into the hall of fame. well deserved & long over due. season over now for the mariners, haha. its going to be a brutal year. they did manage to raise ticket prices again though, about 2 weeks before they gutted the team. we're top 5 in cost to go to game now. i thought it was traditional to like win before you gouged the fans. they've priced me out. i used to go to at least 1 game a homestand & 1 game a series before that. there is a row$12 (second cheapest) & were great. now with variable pricing they are at least $30 a game & go up to $40 for "premier" games. i'm disgusted with the ownership. they place the money making above winning. pure greed. so now we're going to get another year of "hey, remember that year we almost didn't suck". i've resigned myself to the fact that i'm not going to live to see the mariners make it to the world series.

  6. new orleans was robbed but they did it to themselves too. start of game settling for field goals first few drives. now we have to listen to mr overrated tony romo. he was overrated as a player too. go kc!

  7. I did real well picking winners during regular season (top 3% NFL straight pick & ESPN point spread contests) but have been stinking it up during the playoffs. Didn't get any right wild card weekend. I'd like NO to win. Probably would like to see KC in  the big game. Really dislike the Rams (division foes) & the Patriots.

  8. We saw him in Vegas two years ago and he was on fire! I think we got really lucky to see him 1. do a great setlist with plenty of classic songs from his past  and 2. see him fully engaged and living up to what he is capable of.   I've seen him before years ago in the 90s and I know his reputation for often seeming disinterested or moody in live performance.  I mean not really singing the old stuff with full passion and phrasing, mumbling lyrics instead, seeming to just go through the motions as if it were obligatory.  So I'd say its always a crapshoot what version of Van you will get, but if you catch him on a good night, he can play with the complete mastery and genius that he has at his best. How often that happens these days or even in the past 30 years, I don't really know.  I hope its a great one for ya!

thanks shug. from feedback i've gotten, it seems he has been more consistently great the past few years. very engaged with a great band. the mini residency in vegas is a good thing. that's a great venue @ caesar's. i've seen Elton & Rod there. i'm sure they treat him like a king there. there weren't a lot of tickets left for the show. i got front row of the upper mezzanine, should be fine. sure is a lot going on in vegas that night. besides van: lady gaga, zz top, santana, puddles the clown. for giggles i checked out tickets for lady gaga. i like her. minimum $400. like her but not that much haha. i booked the trip less than 3 weeks in advance, got comped at mandalay bay for all 3 nights with a $50 food credit. nice not to have to wait much for trip! this will be one checked off the bucket list.

  9. has anyone seen Van in the last year or so? he's 1 of the faves I've never seen. i'm heading to vegas last weekend of the month & am going to finally see him. playing caesar's palace. is a good bday present to myself! ;)

  10. don't think radiohead are going to show up but am excited for a possible cure/roxy jam! i'm a big cure fan & they are definitely worthy. hugely influential & still relevant i think. rumour has it a new record is in the works for next year. can't wait for an album with reeves gabrels on guitar!

  11. I grew up in Minnesota. My father's from Detroit, and I grew up liking his teams. So, for a very long time, I was the only Lions fan that I knew. Now with online fan forums and blogs/sites dedicated to single teams, I get to see other Lions fans in all their splendor. And let me tell you, seeing them interact amongst themselves, I don't seek other Lions fans out. Holy christ is the world of sports fandom insufferable. I enjoyed, and miss my small world of being on the lonely Lions island in Minnesota.

Now I'm living in the Chicago burbs, and my wife's family is a Sox/Bears family, and it's nice to not have to hear some idiot Lions fan bitch about Stafford, or hiring Patricia, or whatever else is wrong with the Lions. I don't want to hear it. They suck, hard stop.

I miss the Cutler era of the Bears, but boy are my inlaws starting to get cocky this year. "Hey! Sorry about the Lions this year!!! What happened?!?"

wait til the bears go out in the first round of the playoffs....
