Mudhoney is playing a street fair tonight but I'm not really up for it. Would like to be.

Finally getting around to see U2 in Chicago.
it is an awesome show. enjoy!
-
Yeah but did you see molly hatchet
oh hell yeah. third bill on the famous black & blue tour. blue oyster cult, black sabbath with dio on vocals & molly hatchet.

Patterson from DBT tweeted that he saw them as was fired up.
Patterson & I are roughly the same vintage (he might be 2 years younger). Grew up on the same stuff with some geographic variances. I did see the real Lynyrd Skynyrd though at a young age!

If you get a chance to see Midnight Oil, go. The show Wednesday was a stunner. They are playing at least as well as they were when they called it a day 15 years ago. I hope this will spur them to put out some new material after the tour. Outstanding show!

You know I hate to say this but I'm glad they broke up before they ruined their legacy. I was (still luv the old stuff) a huge Stones fan & it really makes me sad to see the current state of the band. It has become a business entity & not much else. There was a glimpse of the old fire with the blues record but live its same old, same old. I went to the 50th anniversary tour & was very disappointed. The only really good part of the show was the Mick Taylor cameo & they only let him play one song. I'm not counting Satisfaction. Keith's best days are behind him & it has become the Jagger show. They are like a casino circuit band with good PR. The Who, while they still can bring it live, its more nostalgia. At least there is some fire there from Pete & Roger's voice is better than it has been. The other thing with the Beatles is if they hadn't broke up there probably wouldn't have been All Things Must Pass. I play that record a lot. While somewhat bloated via Phil Spector & George's need to get his stuff out, there are a ton of great songs there. While it would've been interesing to see what the Beatles could've done in a more modern live setting at least we didn't have to put up with a string of mediocre records for the sake of commerce. I have to admire the guys who are still putting out vital stuff at an advanced age (Roger Waters, Neil Young) & not totally living on their past. Sometimes it doesn't work but at least they are rolling the dice.

Really? Wow, that's quite a statement.
Edit: Damn, you're right!
Giles Martin did a phenomenal job on it. It's the first time the stereo mix has been something other than an afterthought. He definitely learned from his dad. I'm quite fond of the "Love" soundtrack. Yeah, it was different but is really cool. I've got the surround sound version of it. I've seen the show twice, several years apart. It is constantly evolving. I'd go again! Back to Pepper: It's never been my favorite Beatles record but was an important part of my childhood (I was 6 when it came out). This new mix is revelatory. For instance, I'm hearing some brilliant guitar parts I've never heard before & Ringo shines. Within You, Without You sounds much better, also.

The new mix of Sgt Pepper is amazing. Like hearing it for the first time.

RIP Gregg

Wow - that must have been a great night of music.
Yeah, totally. REM circa Reckoning. There's a famous bootleg of the REM set out there which is awesome.
-
I saw them open for REM circa Days of Wine. An unreal great show all around.

Chuck first Lips show? New album is good! Just saw them a few months ago. Enjoy! Yeah Matthew is a nice guy I will however have to rib him if I see him before or after the show for avoiding Blue Skies on Mars and 100% Fun (Besides sick of myself and we're the same) my two favorite albums in the live setting.. grr
Enjoy tonight's show!
sorry i missed this. 2 work night shows in a week (lips & u2) = rugged. has been a schizo week. started off so great with the shows. then came thursday. devasted by chris cornell's passing. + am having some extra doctor/med insurance trouble. my 2nd job. to answer your question, i've seen the lips several times. they are always stellar. this show was really great. the light show has grown to epic size. i've made my friend a fan & she loved it. told me we wouldn't be missing them if they play in town any time. good sign. hopefully won't be as long a wait as this time. they hadn't played in seattle area for over 3 years. want to take her teenage daughter next time. glad matthew was good. i've hung out with him a few times & girlfriend is an all time favorite. really liked the covers records too.
PS: next up Midnight Oil on May 31 from the front row. woo hoo! then Roger Waters not too long after that. good concert season this year so far.

I'm really depressed about this. The "grunge" years were my glory years career wise. So sad. Is going to be another long day.

I am in total shock. I knew him a little.

Flaming Lips were amazing last night. The light show is unreal. Openers Klangstof were very good also.
-
Nice...I read about the Vedder and Mumford and Sons but they didnt talk about Ben H.
Bad needs to be in the setlist for good...so does All I want Is You (right around Joshua Tree time).
Ya, All I Want is You is a fave of mine also. Maybe they will change a few songs around.

How was the show?
Matthew Sweet for me tonight
Nice! Luv Matthew. Totally nice guy as well as stellar musician.
The Flaming Lips tonight. Finally! After U2 Sunday & Flaming Lips tonight, I finally got smart & took tomorrow off from work to recover.

I thought the show was fantastic. Maybe the best I've seen them & I started with the War tour. I saw them in 1987 but got too polluted & don't remember that one. I also saw a show right when Achtung came out that was excellent. Before it was a stadium thing. This one was special though. For a stadium show, the sound was amazing. Century Link is actually quite good for stadium acoustics as it was designed with that in mind. I was in the front part of the upper deck. From youtube clips, it seems like Seattle was much better than Vancouver. There were a lot of hassles getting in Vancouver & the band was delayed. + opening night jitters. They were on from the start in Seattle. New Year's & Bad gave me shivers down my spine. Side 2 of Joshua was stellar. The Eddie Vedder/Ben Harper appearance was cool. We get a lot of Eddie at shows in Seattle but this one wasn't intrusive in the least. Huge thumbs up. Go if you can for this tour.

U2 tonight!

Flaming Lips
How were the Lips? Tapes I've heard from this tour have been awesome.
-
RIP J Geils. He was a mighty guitar player!
-
Steven Drodz. Heart & soul of the Flaming Lips. My favorite drummer & keyboard player & way up on the list of favorite guitar players. Great singer, too! "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" has an epic guitar solo on the current tour that keeps getting better & better every time they play it. Totally emotional & perfect. So glad he's ok now....

Seems like a really time for Neil not to either tour or release some music...I guess we will see him the RRHOF with Pearl Jam.
I wonder what he is going to do next...Crazy Horse, CSNY, Solo, Promise......
that's the beauty of neil...always keeps us guessing!
Live! Tonight!

I was very disappointed when I found out he was skipping Seattle this tour. Nick (& the Bad Seeds!) always put on a phenomenal show.
