  1. The first thing I heard was "Fearless". As I love that song, it grabbed me totally. Really nice version. Lots of good stuff up on youtube. A few Marley songs, Every PIcture Tells a  Story,  a few Zeppo, Stones "Let it Loose"! & of course Black Crowes. Tickets were a little spendy for a club show but looks like going to be worth it. with 10 people in the band, many mouths to feed! Not enough good music like this out there nowadays.

  2. The last recordings of the late great Eddie Harsch reunited with Rich and Marc and Sven in front of loving fans one last time before he left us for well deserved peace and freedom from suffering at last. We are going to two nights in SF and one in PHX this Fall! So stoked!!!!

I got my tickets for Seattle yesterday. I hadn't heard about this record. A very nice surprise!

  3. That sucks for me 'cause I totally missed him in my life. Never listened, never saw him. Wouldn't even know where to begin.

get the 3 cd/1 dvd anthology that came out a few months ago. there's a nice booklet with it too. not talking the mega version although that looks cool too.

  4. yeah i think it's always worth it to suck up the (quite substantial) cost and get as close as possible at a Nick Cave show.

i was two rows from behind the orchestra pit, and paid $250 face value. and that was the farthest away i've been to the three shows i've seen.

back when they played lollapalooza (year had smashing pumpkins, beastie boys) they were middle of the bill on the mainstage. they blew everybody off the stage (beasties were good but...). was while the band was having various party favour problems. i've seen him a lot. I miss blixa bargeld some but warren ellis is special. did you see grinderman when he toured that? the show i saw people in the front were yelling for bad seed song & managed to piss nick off. the intensity level at that show was unbelievable.

  5. if i die tmrw, i can rest easy knowing that Nick Cave is probably the best performer ever.

I was very disappointed when I found out he was skipping Seattle this tour. Nick (& the Bad Seeds!) always put on a phenomenal show.

  6. Patterson from DBT tweeted that he saw them as was fired up.

Patterson & I are roughly the same vintage (he might be 2 years younger). Grew up on the same stuff with some geographic variances. I did see the real Lynyrd Skynyrd though at a young age!

  7. If you get a chance to see Midnight Oil, go. The show Wednesday was a stunner. They are playing at least as well as they were when they called it a day 15 years ago. I hope this will spur them to put out some new material after the tour. Outstanding show!

  8. You know I hate to say this but I'm glad they broke up before they ruined their legacy. I was (still luv the old stuff) a huge Stones fan & it really makes me sad to see the current state of the band. It has become a business entity & not much else. There was a glimpse of the old fire with the blues record but live its same old, same old. I went to the 50th anniversary tour & was very disappointed. The only really good part of the show was the Mick Taylor cameo & they only let him play one song. I'm not counting Satisfaction. Keith's best days are behind him & it has become the Jagger show. They are like a casino circuit band with good PR. The Who, while they still can bring it live, its more nostalgia. At least there is some fire there from Pete & Roger's voice is better than it has been. The other thing with the Beatles is if they hadn't broke up there probably wouldn't have been All Things Must Pass. I play that record a lot. While somewhat bloated via Phil Spector & George's need to get his stuff out, there are a ton of great songs there. While it would've been interesing to see what the Beatles could've done in a more modern live setting at least we didn't have to put up with a string of mediocre records for the sake of commerce. I have to admire the guys who are still putting out vital stuff at an advanced age (Roger Waters, Neil Young) & not totally living on their past. Sometimes it doesn't work but at least they are rolling the dice.

  9. Really? Wow, that's quite a statement.

    Edit: Damn, you're right!

Giles Martin did a phenomenal job on it. It's the first time the stereo mix has been something other than an afterthought. He definitely learned from his dad. I'm quite fond of the "Love" soundtrack. Yeah, it was different but is really cool. I've got the surround sound version of it. I've seen the show twice, several years apart. It is constantly evolving. I'd go again! Back to Pepper: It's never been my favorite Beatles record but was an important part of my childhood (I was 6 when it came out). This new mix is revelatory. For instance, I'm hearing some brilliant guitar parts I've never heard before & Ringo shines. Within You, Without You sounds much better, also.

  10. Chuck first Lips show? New album is good! Just saw them a few months ago. Enjoy! Yeah Matthew is a nice guy I will however have to rib him if I see him before or after the show for avoiding Blue Skies on Mars and 100% Fun (Besides sick of myself and we're the same)  my two favorite albums in the live setting.. grr

    Enjoy tonight's show!

sorry i missed this. 2 work night shows in a week (lips & u2) = rugged. has been a schizo week. started off so great with the shows. then came thursday. devasted by chris cornell's passing. + am having some extra doctor/med insurance trouble. my 2nd job. to answer your question, i've seen the lips several times. they are always stellar. this show was really great. the light show has grown to epic size. i've made my friend a fan & she loved it. told me we wouldn't be missing them if they play in town any time. good sign. hopefully won't be as long a wait as this time. they hadn't played in seattle area for over 3 years. want to take her teenage daughter next time. glad matthew was good. i've hung out with him a few times & girlfriend is an all time favorite. really liked the covers records too.

PS: next up Midnight Oil on May 31 from the front row. woo hoo! then Roger Waters not too long after that. good concert season this year so far.

  11. Nice...I read about the Vedder and Mumford and Sons but they didnt talk about Ben H.

Bad needs to be in the setlist for good...so does All I want Is You (right around Joshua Tree time).

Ya, All I Want is You is a fave of mine also. Maybe they will change a few songs around.
