  1. Today I got my hip replaced. 57 yrs and old, first surgery in my life.

i hope you are well soon. i had mine done over 10 years ago & it is hanging in ok. i'm sure the tech has grown a lot in the meantime.

  2. Yeah, if I'd probably put Pageant as my second favorite. Love "Fall on Me" and "Cuyahoga."

Unlike some fans I don't really separate R.E.M. by time periods because I'd include albums from both the IRS and WB years in my top five.

    totally agree

  3. Watched this game ('long-time 'Skins fan) after the beat down on my local favorite team (Denver).

What a great game (not just because WAS won). Man, the back-and forth was something. SEA kicker needs to get his shit together, too. Good lord, 3 misses??! I know it was wet and all, but wow.

it was brutal for me. i think the main problem was that earl thomas was out. he's the heart & soul of the team.

  4. I got into REM with Document and immediately plunged into their back catalog with Lifes Rich Pageant and the rest immediately afterwards. But Automatic remains my favorite album of theirs. Even though it's pegged as a dark album it does have lighter moments like "Man on the Man" and "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" and it's got gorgeous songs like "Nightswimming" and "Find the River." "Sweetness Follows" is my favorite though. The album came out a year or so after my mother passed away from cancer and that song in particular meant a lot to me through some difficult times.

life's rich pageant is another personal fave. that was a really good tour with guadacanal diary opening. at the end, stipe did "we don't need another hero" accompinied by a beat box. strangeness but cool.

  5. Speaking of memories -

I recall seeing what use to be called "the world premier" of the Drive video on MTV.

I probably played that tape a lot back in the day. I think now I would only care to hear Nightswimming and Find The River.

Find the River is an all-time favorite song for me by anyone. Think my favorite album by them is New Adventures in Hi Fi. "I wore my door mat face...". Any record that has a song inspired by Shakes the Clown can't be all bad. You're in the barrel now...

  6. Last minute long shot here: I'm too sick to go to the Hawks/Texans game. If there are any fans in the Seattle area that happen to see this, I have 2 excellent tickets on the 100 level. Corner of endzone. I paid face value from ticketbastard but they were spendy. I'm hoping to recoup at least part of what I spent on them. This is killing me as this was to be my 1 game this year. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

  7. Sweet what city?

Seattle. it's him & another guy acoustic. Easy Street Records has an attached cafe. I think its $20. There are other options with signed posters & hanging out with Tommy for more money. Kind of different. Could be a tough night for me. Night before Thanksgiving & in the middle of a chemo cycle. But it's 2 miles from my house.

  8. I lost my dad. For the last three and a half years (during which time he had three battles with two different cancers) he was front and center in my mind. I feel lost.

condolences. went through that 2 years ago.
