  1. Saw Metallica last night. They were epic. Show was a nice mix of old & new material. They know how to do a stadium show. The fireworks/pyro were impressive. I got to about 1 hard rock/metal show a year & this didn't disappoint. Much better than last year's G 'n R show (although Alice in Chains were mighy opening for them). Here's the setlist from last night:

    HARDWIRED
    ATLAS, RISE!
    FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS
    THE MEMORY REMAINS
    THE UNFORGIVEN
    NOW THAT WE'RE DEAD
    MOTH INTO FLAME
    WHEREVER I MAY ROAM
    HALO ON FIRE
    WHIPLASH
    SAD BUT TRUE
    ONE
    MASTER OF PUPPETS
    FADE TO BLACK
    SEEK AND DESTROY
    ENCORE 1

    BATTERY
    NOTHING ELSE MATTERS
    ENTER SANDMAN

  2. Yikes, it's the most over used word on the internet these days but the best way to describe that is cringe.

I feel like I've said this before. Neil needs to stop releasing so many albums, he's released 9 albums in the past 10 years. That's more than most songwriters in their 20s release. Take 2 or 3 years off and really work on the songs. He also needs a good producer that can tell him no. Shit like this (and there's even crappier stuff, as brownie mentioned) reeks of too many "yes men" in his management/band/production team. The producer might be a big one though, as uncool2pillow mentioned, post-1992 was the turning point, which is the same time David Briggs passed away. Though I feel like things have gotten worse in the past decade. Prairie Wind and Living with War were at least listenable.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, he needs to do a solo acoustic tour of Western Canada. That wouldn't fix anything....... but I've never had the chance to see NY and if Bob Dylan can play my town I feel like Neil could too.

Did anything ever get announced for Hitchhiker?

    cancelled (Hitchhiker). Neil being Neil.

  3. After a pretty good run I'm on a show break due to some health issues. Had to back out of Diana Krall sadly as I won't be in good shape to go at the end of the month. August is looking busy though starting 8/9 with Metallica. Something may come up before then but need to be careful.

  4. ^Chez I used like Transmissions the best then I heard Clouds Taste Metallic! SOOO GOOD! Either way great place to start on either album

the anniversary package of "Clouds" is really cool. live disc from that era is amazing.

  5. Saw the flaming lips on Saturday. They closed out the local shit show of a week long festival my city puts on. It was super awesome. They did tons of old stuff, and because they were on a 40ft high barge on the river they even used biodegradable confetti. Probably Top 20 Concerts  territory.

The last song was "Do you realize?" and the event organizers launched the fireworks before they even finished the song. Wayne told us at the beginning of the show that the first couple fireworks contained the cremated remains of a stage hand that worked for the local union here, which made it all the more poignant. It was amazing.

I've seen them several times & they are always amazing. Saw them in May & this year was really good. Steven Drodz is 1 of my favorite musicians & the guitar solo on "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" was so emotional. Stellar.

  6. The first thing I heard was "Fearless". As I love that song, it grabbed me totally. Really nice version. Lots of good stuff up on youtube. A few Marley songs, Every PIcture Tells a  Story,  a few Zeppo, Stones "Let it Loose"! & of course Black Crowes. Tickets were a little spendy for a club show but looks like going to be worth it. with 10 people in the band, many mouths to feed! Not enough good music like this out there nowadays.

  7. The last recordings of the late great Eddie Harsch reunited with Rich and Marc and Sven in front of loving fans one last time before he left us for well deserved peace and freedom from suffering at last. We are going to two nights in SF and one in PHX this Fall! So stoked!!!!

I got my tickets for Seattle yesterday. I hadn't heard about this record. A very nice surprise!

  8. That sucks for me 'cause I totally missed him in my life. Never listened, never saw him. Wouldn't even know where to begin.

get the 3 cd/1 dvd anthology that came out a few months ago. there's a nice booklet with it too. not talking the mega version although that looks cool too.

  9. yeah i think it's always worth it to suck up the (quite substantial) cost and get as close as possible at a Nick Cave show.

i was two rows from behind the orchestra pit, and paid $250 face value. and that was the farthest away i've been to the three shows i've seen.

back when they played lollapalooza (year had smashing pumpkins, beastie boys) they were middle of the bill on the mainstage. they blew everybody off the stage (beasties were good but...). was while the band was having various party favour problems. i've seen him a lot. I miss blixa bargeld some but warren ellis is special. did you see grinderman when he toured that? the show i saw people in the front were yelling for bad seed song & managed to piss nick off. the intensity level at that show was unbelievable.
