  1. I was at this show, and that whole thing with the cell phone was hilarious. I really got the impression the girl's mother did NOT believe it was "the singer" on the phone. Classic! Great show, too.

I was at that show as well and remember talking about it here. We were in the second row and when we made the rush up to the stage, Jeff was a bit surprised - he had made a remark that (because my wife was dressed so nice) he thought that we were just there on a date. I have only been to 4 Wilco shows, but this was my favorite. Jeff played a lot on the electric guitar and there was a "freshness" to the way everyone played since Nels & Pat had not been with the band for very long at that point. It was the first time I heard the alternate ending to Ashes and the live "feedback duel" between Jeff & Nels at the end of Handshake Drugs. I also recall the backdrop display was incredible - a series of photographs, film loops, ending with a picture of an outline of a hummingbird at the end of the show (before the encore). Never forget that night - wish they had commissioned a poster just for that show.

  2. I made a big move to a different state 7 weeks ago - haven't changed residences in 25 years so it was a big thing.

So many things still unsettled after nearly 2 months.

I have to thank Mr. Tweedy & son for making me get my big butt down under my desk, on the hardwood floor and finally hooking up my PC speakers so I could listen to this.

    Love it.

Kinda has a Corduroy Cutoff Girl vibe for me.

  3. Holy crap, I just realized that yesterday, 3/24, was the 20th anniversary of one of my favorite UT shows (Lounge Ax, opened with Chickamauga and ended with Effigy). This is getting weird. :lol

Wish UT would put out a live album. I know they talked about the possibility of dong it. My favorite is one they did on 10/15/93. The sound quality of that show is incredible and the performance was fantastic. I literally listen to it several times a week.

  4. Jeff & Susie,

I think you probably read the posts on this board, so I would say go, be together and get better - beat this thing.

If we don't hear from you for awhile, we'll miss you, but we will still be here when you get back and are healthy and happy.

  5. This is a tough crowd for this question but I will suggest "More Like The Moon".

Good choice, I forgot about that one. It has such a nice intimate feel, sounds great on headphones & beautiful guitar.

I would also vote for Thanks I Get, especially when it's done live with The Total Pros.

  6. I'm probably not telling anybody anything new here, but there is an excellent recording of UT on Dime a Dozen currently.

    The Vic Theatre, on 1993-10-15.

I know Analogman has the link & setlist in the Future Age section.

I have never heard a better live recording of them, I think it was meant for an FM broadcast.

The final song, a cover of Susie Q, was included on the reissue album with a slightly different mix.

If you are looking for live Uncle Tupelo and until or if a offical live recording is released,  you gotta grab this one.

  7. Jumping Jack Flash & Street Fighting Man - Rolling Stones (live from "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out")

Hoedown & Aquatrakus - ELP (live from "Welcome Back My Friends...")

Ziggy Startdust & The Spiders from Mars - David Bowie - all of side b

Love My Way - Psychedelic Furs

Not Where It's At - Del Amitri

As Far As I Know - Paul Westerberg

Lately I have been listening to an edited version of Uncle Tupelo's October 15th 1993 performance at the Vic Theatre every night.

It was a great recording of the show.

  8. Funny, I always saw Louis CK more as Woody Allen - especially the way he approaches his TV show.

Funniest thing I saw him do in recent memory was a paraody of his own show, but as Abraham Lincoln on SNL.

Couldn't stop laughing at the skit's song over the opening credits (Lincoln, Lincoln, Lincoln instead of Louie, Louie, Louie).

  9. I suppose everyone has in their mind what the deal is all about. I believe I think of "how big a band was", "original sound (i.e The Cars)", "longevity" and maybe a few other things.  What I listen to, and who I am into is probably very narrow compared to a lot of people here. But - I love KISS and I am also down with the Velvet Underground.

And also don't forget how big the KISS Army is - those people are probably driving up the votes.

I can tell you that I was a teenager in the early 1980s, and I hate Hall & Oates.

I'm not an H&O fan either.

However, I remember the excitement I felt when I discovered even names that eventually became big in the 70's: David Bowie, ELP... even Elton John, John Denver and, yes, Cat Stevens.

But I also remember hearing about REM & the Replacements in the 80's - and getting my first taste of Paul Westerberg when my step-daughter took me to see the movie "Singles".

    Those were great times.

I probably would have never really discovered the Jayhawks, Wilco, Fountains of Wayne, Mathew Sweet or Big Star if it wasn't for Napster in  the 00's.

Just wish HOF could provide that opportunity to generations to come.

  10. Sorry, don't mean to disrespect KISS, but I think the HOF should educate - turn people on to bands they have never heard before and experience the joy of dicovering music they never knew about. I mean I remember the excitement of discovering artists I never heard before but had been around for awhile . Maybe they should have a separate wing for the greatest artists that were commercal failures

  11. Meanwhile Linda Ronstadt was also an important artist in her time, but despite her current health problems, few people are going to consider her MOR career that important these days (I sure dug her way back when though.)

The R&R Hall is somewhat pathetic I think.  Sorry, there is nothing about Kiss that seems to deserve recognition, but that's just me.  Never was a fan.

Sadly enough, I believe Kiss is in the lead in the Rolling Stone voting, while The Replacement is running dead last and don't even have 4% of the vote yet. I think Nirvana is running second behind Kiss or is tied. But then I guess no one has ever gone broke or failed under-estimating the crappyness concerning the tastes of the general American public.

  12. Okay, I finally saw the whole thing.  Just finished watching finale.  My only question is this:  over the course of the whole show, all those intense scenes shot in the desert, and not one rattlesnake anywhere?  For some reason I kept expecting one and it never materialized.  Too obvious, maybe.

There was one in my back yard about 3 weeks ago - about 4 feet long - had to pay a guy 30 dollars to grab it and take it away - never will forget the sound of that rattle.

  13. at the risk of sounding like a pathetic uber-fanboy... I envy you & your wife.  Enjoy the ride!

If your are a pathetic uber-fanboy, then there must be a club you, me and my wife can join :-)

We started watching season 1 again too!

It's so much fun to see Walter White as Mr. Chips as he slowly decends into becoming Scarface.
