AGIB is Wilco's best-sounding album. Fact.
Agreed!
O'Rourke is a genius

A while back, I downloaded a 96/24 rip of YHF from vinyl that someone had done and had converted into an ISO file in a 5.1 format.
Can't vouch for the quality of the software or equipment that was used to create the file.
I burned it to a DVD and finally got around to listening to it last Friday.
I don't know what all the conversions this individual did had as an effect on the sound, but hey, it was free.
I have some fairly decent audio equipment and would say that what I heard was interesting.
There was a good separation of vocals to the center channel and I was able to hear instruments that I have never felt I have heard on the album, but it seem to come at a cost of other instruments.
For example, I heard acoustic guitars on Kamera much more clearly and fully, but the keyboards and xlyphone (?) on the song seem to disappear.
So, I don't really know if this is a function of being a rip from vinyl, 96/24, or just the psuedo 5.1 mix that was created.
It makes me wonder if 96 Khz/24 bit changes the way a record producer (and or mixer) meant for an album to sound like, but I suspect it was the mix instead.
It made for interesting evening of listening.

I lost my step-daughter in 1986 in a car accident.
She was eleven.
Just last Sunday, my wife cried in a resteraunt when she began thinking about her.
I guess what I am trying to say (and I am very sorry to have to tell you) is that the intensity of the pain and the black hole of depression you now feel will never go away.
My only consolation is to tell you that the frequency of the times in which you feel this way will gradually lessen of the years/decades.
It is probably the worse thing in the world for a parent to lose a child and my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
I hope that can find a positive way to make your pain and suffering recede over time..

When I get burned out on Wilco, I listen to Uncle Tupelo..
Until I get pass the burn out...
Then I start listening to Wilco again...

Mad Men in suits walking about
I'd like to change your point of view someday
But I feel my patience slipping away

I think the Beatles appearances on Ed Sullivan were live.
Also I recall back in the 80's (30 years ago) R.E.M refusing to lip sync for a music video and they did it live (So Central Rain, I think)

Thanks to everyone for your answers!
It sounds from the all varied responses that most of the Roadcase shows are pretty good choices.
-
I recently purchased my first Roadcase show (The Solid Sound Covers Concert) and I'm interested in purchasing one or two more.
Is there anyone out there that have bought a few of these and have a favorite?
I'd particuarly be interested in hearing from those who got a show that they did not attend in person, so that your opinion is based on the sound quality, performance, etc.of the recording.
Over the years, I have downloaded several shows from Owl & Bear, Dime A Dozen & other torrent sites (audience, matrix, sbd, fm broadcast) so I think I have a pretty good idea as what to expect from those sources.
But I would like to know if there are marked differences among the roadcases shows.

So for tonight, do all the same with the version that is up on bt.etree and give us a report on which you think sounds better . I would myself, but there's a hockey game to watch. I can't get settled until I decide which source I'm going to keep and share. I think I'll have some fun over the weekend doing this.
OK, well I took your "Pepsi challenge" and listened to both these recordings.
Full disclosure - in order to do this, I committed the cardinal sin of converting the flac files to MP3's so I could move them to my Ipod and listen to the same songs back to back on headphones.
Brennan's recording gets the edge with some qualifications.
Nyctaper's has a better low-end, but it sounds like all the music is coming from one monoural space.
Brennan's recording has more of a 3-D sound.
A good example of this is on The Boys Are Back In Town when John & Pat sing back the chorus to Jeff. Their vocals seem to pop right out from a different location and sound great on Brennan's recording
Another good comparison is the opening to Pyschotic Reaction. The guitar and harmonica at the beginning sound much better on Brennan's recording, but when the bass drum comes in, nyctaper's version sounds better.
Another thing in which nyctaper had the edge was the "Chatty-Chuckies" (I don't say "Kathies" since most of the conversations are male voices) on the quiet songs are much less pronounced than on Brennan's version.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why someone would yak while Jeff Tweedy is pouring his heart out up on stage singing (for probably the only time you'll hear him do it) Peace, Love and Understanding.
Probably the best test of this will be to listen to Brennan's version with the original Flac files on my home system and just turn up the bass.
But I will need to do this when my wife is out of the house.
Special thanks to Brennan & nyctaper for their work in capturing a fantastic concert.

I downloaded nyctaper's recording of the show, pushed the files to a jump drive, plugged the drive into my new reciever (it will play FLAC files), sat back with my Chinese Crested to keep me company and a can of Steel Reserve and had a throughly enjoyable time last night.
Thanks nyctaper!
(and of course, thanks, Wilco!)

OH WOW! I just spotted what looks like a professional camera operator from the side of the stage!

I wasn't there, but, in my opinion, this was a once-in-a-lifetime performance by a once-in-a-lifetime band.
Reality tells me that my physical health and finances would have never allowed me to make it to and make it thru this festival, but I wish I was there as opposed to having my clients and their advisors needle and criticize me all Friday & today (sorry - a job related venting).
Thanks all of you who have supplied the less fortunate of us with updates and videos of this show.
It has made my day a lot brighter.
And especially, thanks to Wilco. I feel sorry for my friends & family (and anyone else for that matter) who don't realize what a great bunch of guys that you are.
Sorry if anyone feels this is gushing too much.

Just found a clip of And Your Bird Can Sing:
Thanks very much for sharing!
Wow,Tommy Stinson was there as well!
With the recent news can Paul Westerberg be too far away?
-
It's funny how these songs have a bit of "Jeff History" to them. I think he sang Peace, Love & Understanding with Golden Smog & I know Uncle Tupelo covered Dead Flowers. Not really making any point here - I guess I just a had shitty day today and really wish I was there tonight. Would love to have heard And Your Bird Can Sing. Hope this gets recorded but I suppose there would be legal issues if Wilco sold the performance like they do with some of there other shows.

Psychotic Reaction??? OMG.
I believe the original version by The Count Five included a harmonica. Wonder if Jeff played it on their cover.
-
Amazon wants $24.95 and that it's coming out in September :
Not sure why the cover shot shows eveybody's hands in their pockets (except Nels & John)?
-
I've seen this commercial a lot on TV lately - last time was during Mad Men this past Sunday.
I hope Glenn gets paid by how many times it runs.
-
I know members of Wilco have a lot of side projects, but this one is a bit strange.
Oh well, they have to look out for the future and provide for their families.
Free faucets for life!

I would like to know more about the "incidents" with border police that "maybe shouldn't be discussed at this time". Hmmmmm.

Here are the prices for Tampa:
US $25.00 - US $89.00
US $25.00 Ticket + US $7.00 Fees = US $32.00US $89.00 Ticket + US $16.70 Fees = US $105.70Big discrepancy in pricing. I'm thinking that means lawn seats are $32, all the real seats are $105. If I can score good seats in the presale, I may go, if not, no thanks. I'm not used to seeing Wilco from the 58th row.Tampa venue is at the Fairgrounds and is outside. At the end of June, Tampa is a pretty miserable place to be outside. I'd rather have my Wilco inside, so I'll wait a few years until they come back - hopefully to the Stratz Center.

I had read an article about how Jeff hates performing new songs in front of an audience before he's finished recording them. Something about how it's hard for him to serperate the audience reaction to the quiet studio. I saw them play Walken the summer before Sky BLue Sky came out, I wonder if he still feels that way, or if any songs are recorded at this point. It seems they would have to be if they want to release an album this year..right?
I hope they would continue to do this, but I can understand his why he might not like it.
I have been listening to a show from 2003 (Wallingford, CT) in which they did Muzzle of Bees, ALTWYS and Spiders.
The versions of Spiders & Bees were very diiferent from what wound up on the album, however, the newer version of Spiders they have been doing for the last year incorporates how they performed it at the 2003 show.
And for my mind at least, I like this version better

Went to Wilco's Facebook page for the link to the concert. It is still showing up as out of sync - by about 10 seconds - judging the time difference from when I see Jeff sing and hear him sing. Not sure if it's my PC, but I have a good connection and have not had problems before. Hope they get it fixed while it's still available because the camera work & sound are great. One caveat, there is about 15 minutes of instrument pre-checks before the concert actually starts.

....downloaded & recorded the concert from the youtube link above, but the sound was out of sync....
