They don't.

If a company like Apple wants to build a billion-dollar facility in town, the local government will bend over backwards and offer free/cheap land, modified zoning and/or extremely generous tax breaks. (And then the company will avoid taxes by hoarding its money offshore.)

Left Hanging: Netflix/Breaking Bad
Hixter replied to smells like flowers's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
The DVD won't be released until November 26th, so I wouldn't expect it until after then. I'd imagine Netflix won't get it until the holiday gift-buying season is over. I have all the episodes downloaded and would be willing to send them to you if you can come up with a way to transfer 10 GB of files. -
The president tried to claim that that would be the case, but it's now clear that it's untrue. The whole ball of wax was sold on lies that the president knew were lies and now he's squirming -- good thing he has the New York Times to tell Americans that he made 'incorrect promises' rather than told lies. Middle and upper-class Americans are going to pay more for inferior coverage. It's inevitable. It's the only way to pay for the subsidies. Ever see what the IRS does to people who don't pay their taxes? Those things aren't (or shouldn't) be owned by for-profit companies like insurance

What he said. The government has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to force Americans to buy insurance and they can't even get that right. Let's not put them in charge of everything.

Read back and you'll find out how wrong you are.

All the more indication that Iraqi civilian casualties were widely reported from the start of the war until the present.

Yes, nearly every day.

A snarky response deserves a snarky response of its own, so instead of answering your question I'll suggest that you search the archives for your answer.

I'm not arguing. I'm pointing out some facts -- in this case that there were not "13 Benghazis" during the Bush administration where multiple Americans were killed -- and interspersing them with my personal opinions. I don't consider politics a team sport; it's not an "us vs. them" issue in my eyes. I am as annoyed by the Republican party as I am by the Democrats. I believed I've covered all those in the past when other people tried to cram me into a tidy little box. Almost no mention? You would have had to have been in a coma during the Bush administration to say such a thing. But I hav

Yes I did -- very closely -- and the answer is still one.
-
Despite the writer's zealous attempt to claim that 13 Benghazis took place during the Bush administration, how many Americans were killed in the embassies/consulates? The answer is one.
-
Only 5 other American ambassadors have been killed and the last one was 35 years ago. It's not an everyday occurrence. One of those dead Marines was a friend of mine. I'm not sure that you can compare military troops in a war zone to a civilians in an American embassy, but I recall much public anger directed at at the Reagan administration after the bombing -- especially concerning the perceived lack of response.

Here's a cheery piece of good news: Looks like the Saudis have their (nuclear) sights set on Iran and Israel.

I assumed as much. My daughter's chili was topped with sour cream and she said that her husband asked her to add black olives next time. I told her to serve it with tortilla chips and just call it taco salad.
-
My post was entirely tongue-in-cheek, but I do live in San Antonio where chili con carne was invented. I could throw a kielbasa between two slices of rye bread, slather it with BBQ sauce and garnish it with sliced beets and call it a Chicago dog ... but would it be a Chicago dog?
-
My daughter just posted a photo of her chili on Facebook. It has beans in it. I've failed as a father. Worst of all, the recipe came from my mother. Maybe chili greatness skips a generation?

Perhaps they know their kids well enough that they aren't worried that they're going to bayonet Viet Cong, run over hookers or slay dragons in the real world.

I'm of the opinion that it does little harm, if any. I like to look at the human species as just another form of animal, and I think that boys wrestling and playing war is no different than puppies play-fighting and cats toying with small rodents: it's how they/we learn to survive and protect ourselves and our offspring.

It's a critical part of childhood and it's what drives adults to create artwork and write songs, movies and poems. It's perfectly healthy and acceptable.

Yeah, but it's still just make believe.

Hundreds of newscasters are asking the same question. But the conspiracy theorists will notice that his name begins and ends with CIA.

I don't accept tyranny in any form, but I don't think that either of your examples come close to being described as tyranny. That said, "your tyranny" is already in effect and the weapon has already been banned -- to no apparent effect. Like it or not, if the government wants to protect airport passengers then they need to do away with all the pre-screening areas where large numbers of people congregate. The best place to cause mass casualties would be in the security lines themselves and no firearms would be necessary, only a few items easily purchased at a hardware store.
