  1. Hats off to my alma mater. I knew they had it in them.
  2. I don't think that's the case.
  3. I've never heard any of Jay's solo stuff, but the Fibbers are my favorite band of all time. To be fair, you should narrow the choice down to Butch, because that's the only album Nels played on. But it's a masterpiece and the 6 or 7 GF shows I saw rank at the top of my list of memorable concerts. And then there are the Singers, the Nels Cline Trio, Scarnella, Destroy all Nels Cline...pretty much anything Nels (or Carla Bozulich) touches turns to gold.
  4. Her website says she's playing with The Altered Statesmen
  5. Uh-oh, I didn't pack anything but t-shirts.
  6. I'll be there. I'm flying in from SoCal on a conveniently arranged recon mission to scout for a place to live. I'm being transferred to San Antonio at the end of the month and I know nothing about the city.
  7. Updated news, album release info, tour dates, graphics, etc. NelsCline.com
  8. I saw them at DiPiazzas last night in Long Beach for the millionth time. It's fun to watch: 1) Norton paint 2) Nels play 3) Watt's slack-jawed stage expressions 4) Perkins' grinning 5) Willie's fist-pump-joint-smoking gestures
  9. A few months ago, Pete Townshend's blog listed Wilco as one of his favorite bands. On tour with The Who once again, Mr. T had this to say in today's Ottawa Citizen: Q: Are there any young guitarists out there today who thrill you? Who do you listen to in the car? A: I like a lot of new guitar players. It's hard to listen to guitar players who are better than me and I can hear them free at almost any decent music store. In my car I listen to Yo-Yo Ma (especially with Edgar Meyer), Wilco, Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, Martha Wainwright, Sean Lennon, Sigur Ros, Buddy Guy. I listen to a lot of
  10. The San Antonio date is tantalizingly close to the arrival date for my expected transfer to Alamo Town. And the Nels/Glenn date in Philly is also within the zone of possibility for my pre-transfer training in that town. I guess I should try to pull a few strings and make it happeen.
  11. I have a few live recordings (probably the same ones that everyone else has) that I should get around to torrenting one of these days. One of them is Nels' solo acoustic show from Pasadena a few years back. Good stuff.
  12. Just in case nobody's noticed it, I'll mention that there seems to be a problem with the search feature when searching for something and asking for the results to be shown as posts. The posts are displayed after the search is completed, but they only show the first 5 or 6 characters of the message - or nothing at all if the message begins with quoted text. I assume it's related to the database issues mentioned here.
  13. If there's any justice in the world, then Nels would've been playing The Nels Cline Trio's composition "Little Shaver" while Glenn was removing his moustache.
  14. Yeah, I've had the same feeling. It reminded me of Ten Years After's "I'd Love To Change The World" when I first heard it. Then I started imagining Cat Stevens and Al Stewart, so I guess there's a definite 70s vibe in there somewhere.
  15. He's been slashing away at that guitar with whisks and other objects for many years.
