  1. The wording of many of his posts is difficult enough for me to follow without this added layer of complexity.
  2. Do you have a link to the story or press release? I can't find anything on Google and it's odd that they would say something like that, as Martin was too young to buy a handgun or obtain a concealed handgun license.
  3. I've never said -- and I don't believe -- that Trayvon Martin was evil. And for what it's worth, I don't identify myself as right wing or Libertarian or anything else; I'm just a guy with an opinion. I'll give you 'stubborn', but I'm very open-minded. I may not agree with someone's point of view, but I'm always happy to hear them out. Diversity is what makes life interesting.
  4. The law is important because it removes the obligation to retreat when facing a deadly threat. Without the law, people could find themselves required to hide in a closet when someone kicks down their door, because maybe he's just planning to steal their television. But then again, maybe he intends to rape and murder them. (And then steal their television.)
  5. Those statements are essentially irrelevant; Zimmerman was legally justified in shooting Zimmerman as soon as the kid attacked him. Just as we must at least acknowledge that things went down exactly as Zimmerman said.
  6. Zimmerman's blood was found on Martin's clothing. Martin had an abrasion on his hand that was likely caused by punching Zimmerman. Zimmerman had no injuries to his hands.
  7. Because there were no other witnesses and no evidence to the contrary. Zimmerman's wounds were consistent with his side of the story.
  8. Police say they were called to the development 402 times during the 13 months prior to the shooting. Zimmerman made 10 of them and only 4 were about suspicious people -- one of them was arrested 4 days later for possession of stolen property. He would have to have committed a crime; you can't throw someone in jail for making a poor decision. If someone is reaches for your gun and tells you that you're going to die, it's far more serious than just an ass whooping.
  9. This article is a year old, but it's probably the most thoroughly researched piece about George Zimmerman and describes the crime wave that had his neighbors on edge.
  10. There is no evidence that Martin was aware of Zimmerman's handgun until he was straddling him while beating his head on the concrete. Zimmerman would have been breaking the law if he had brandished his pistol for no reason and it's highly unlikely that Martin would have attacked him if Zimmerman had had his pistol out. Nobody shoots to maim. Cops and soldiers certainly don't shoot to maim and neither do civilians. They shoot to stop the attacker. And Martin had a history of fighting, illegal drug use, illegal gun possession, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen items, bu
  11. Zimmerman had a broken nose and lacerations from having his head beaten on the sidewalk; other than the bullet hole, Martin didn't have a scratch on him. Zimmerman said that Martin told him that he was going to die and reached for his gun so, yes, he had reason to fear for his life.
  12. I wouldn't consider hunting a dark, ugly, negative side of human nature. None of us would be here without it. I'm actually a "the world is a nice place, people are good, life is great, to each his own" type of person, but I don't mind talking about more troubling topics -- especially if they're involved with current events.
  13. Exactly. I worked for a newspaper for several years and facts matter more than anything. My head almost exploded when that Washing Post writer claimed that Zimmerman had called 911 46 times about African-Americans.
  14. Yes, that's the law. If a person who isn't breaking the law is attacked and fears for his life, he is legally allowed to use deadly force to protect himself. There were several poor decisions made that night, but Martin's decision to attack Zimmerman was the poorest of them all.
  15. I've said it a dozen times -- including just a few minutes ago -- but I'll say it again: Zimmerman did back off. He was walking back to his truck to meet the cops when Martin jumped him and began beating him. And you keep defending a teenager who was beating a man's head on the ground while telling him that he was going to die. And the man who was being beaten had broken absolutely zero laws.
  16. Incorrect. He followed him before the dispatcher said "We don't need you to do that. And thanks for putting words in my mouth yet again.
  17. And what happened after that? He made arrangements to walk back to his truck and meet the police. That's when Martin surprised him and began beating him. Nope. Not at all.
  18. Not under the law. If you'll read the statute here, you'll see that the majority of the law pertains to illegally and forcefully entering dwellings and vehicles -- better known as "The Castle Doctrine." The only part that is even close to applying is this: Matin wasn't attacked, so it doesn't apply. Zimmerman, however ... Simply untrue. The transcript does not say any such thing.
  19. As I've said earlier, making racist remarks is just as offensive if you're just putting words in another person's mouth.
  20. And George Zimmerman was also walking down the street. Legally. No crime was committed that night until Trayvon Martin began beating Zimmerman and threatening to kill him. People are beaten to death every day. A single punch can be deadly and having your head slammed on the concrete even more so. Remember that you are more than twice as likely to be murdered by bare hands and feet than by a so-called "assault" rifle. Like it or not, George Zimmerman won the fight that night. Neighborhood watch members aren't supposed to carry weapons or follow suspicious persons. Zimmerman was under n
  21. Gone home instead of attacking Zimmerman.
  22. That blog post has a glaring error, claiming that Zimmerman had called the police 46 times to report suspicious black males. That's simply untrue, but I guess we shouldn't expect unbiased reporting from a blog with the word "Partisan" in the title. Like I said, follow through on the cousin's allegations. If he committed a crime, throw him in jail. But there may be more to the picture than meets the eye. As someone who has been falsely accused of sexual assault in the past, I'd like to make sure she's not just a mentally unstable person with an ax to grind with her family.
  23. People with concealed handgun licenses undergo background checks and training. If they pass and are awarded a CHL, they are essentially good guys in the eyes of the law right up until the point where they break the law. George Zimmerman was legally allowed to carry a handgun that night and he was legally allowed to defend himself when he feared that his life was in danger. Had he illegally brandished his weapon when he was following Martin it would have been an entirely different story. Touching a police officer with your pinky is considered battery of a LEO. From what I've read, Zimmerman
