We all know what he was saying. He told an untruth. It's as simple as that. Nothing but fear-mongering and political posturing at a tribute to the late, great MLK. It was a stupid thing to say.

Residents are completely banned from buying so-called "assault weapons" in New York. Actual assault weapons are fully automatic machine guns and have been banned for decades, but states like New York have decided that if you add this totally inert piece of plastic to your legal rifle, you've created an "assault weapon" out of thin air. It's just a grip. It doesn't hold any ammunition, it doesn't make the firearm function any differently and it doesn't make the rifle any more deadly -- all it does is make the gun look scary in the eyes of gun-hating politicians.

You answered your own question.

Hot air with no basis in fact.

Very, very unlikely, although small groups of U.S. special forces have probably been on the ground for weeks or months already.

At least he knows who Chris Lane is. It's legalized discrimination based on the color of a person's skin (among other things) and it should be abolished. There would be much more "caring" if there were a Republican president in the White House. An American president gathering a coalition to oust a Ba'athist dictator in the middle east because of WMDs? it's like deja vu all over again. Voting rights act: no longer needed. Gay marriage: marry anyone you want. Immigration reform's imminent death: let it die. There is absolutely no evidence to back up that claim.

The most recent discussion has been about race, race relations and politics. The Trayvon Martin discussion was about race, race relations, racial profiling, the right to self-defense and politics. The previous gun control discussion had a little bit of gun talk, but most of it was about the Constitution, states' rights and politics. These discussions are perfectly at home in the General Political Thread.

As far as I know, those reports came very early as the story was breaking and someone incorrectly published a photo of an African American teen (maybe someone with the same name?) Any outlet still reporting that all 3 were African American is obviously attempting to mislead, but we live in an era where people expect their news to be instantly available, so we see a lot of early reports that are poorly sourced from tweets and Facebook accounts. The same thing happened with the Boston Bombers, Sandy Hook, etc. Hell, the president told us not to jump to conclusions about the Fort Hood shooter,

Perhaps, but it's a distinction that isn't seen outside of census forms. it's quite clear from their own reporting that media outlets adopted the term after their original attempt to brand him as white man were defeated when his photo was published. But they had to keep fanning the flames of racial tension, so poof -- he became a white Hispanic.

Oh really?

The prosecutor in the Zimmerman case said the same thing.

Did "the Right" gin up the racist tweets by one of the murderers? The Maddow piece you linked to contains this gem: So, one of the murderers isn't actually African-American because his mother is white. But in the case of our president, he's African-American. So it's terrible when Fox calls a mixed-race murderer "African-American" but it's not when the media calls our mixed-race president the same thing?

Zimmerman, who is white the unarmed African-American teenager was shot and killed by a white neighborhood watch captain in a gated Florida community 28-year-old George Zimmerman, a white neighborhood watch captain I'm sure that there are white people who are racist against white people, but i think my point was clear: there is no evidence to prove that Zimmerman was racist against African-Americans. Once it became clear that Zimmerman had brown skin, the media resorted to calling Zimmerman a "white Hispanic." When is the last time you heard them refer to the president as a "white African-

Go back and watch the beginning of the episode from 2 weeks ago and you'll see that it appears to be unscathed.

And that makes it any less political?

Pointing out out a Department of Natural Resources document that explains that methane in drinking wells comes from natural sources and isn't related to fracking is dropping a few notches?

No, he did come out and make a 15-minute speech at the White House. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/07/21/the-full-obama-speech-on-trayvon-martin-and-race-in-america-video/

Absolutely untrue. Referring to the Trayvon Martin case, Jesse Jackson claimed that "blacks are under attack" and "killing us is big business." But the most he can muster in this case is a frown. The president injected himself into the Martin case but he's been silent so far. I assume he'll eventually say something, but perhaps he has to practice his frown in front of the mirror first.

Everything I posted is 100% true. I'm surprised that you can't tell us apart, since my posts are friendly, polite and never filled with the "such-and-such party is nothing but morons" schtick that IRDB spews at every opportunity. I don't treat politics like it's a Yankees vs. Red Sox rivalry.

One of the murderers posted tweets about hating white people, so it's very likely that race had something to do with the killing. The media did their best to paint Zimmerman as a white racist, going so far as to edit his call to the police and declaring that he'd uttered a racist epithet, despite the fact that he wasn't white and African-American friends and neighbors swore that he wasn't a racist. Hell, he's part black himself.

At least Jesse Jackson has stepped up to the plate and strongly condemned frowned upon the man's murder. I guess we can expect a tweet from Al Sharpton describing the murder as being "in poor taste" any minute now.

That's the weekend I'll be in Denver for the Great American Beer Festival, so I guess I'll have to make do with a single hour of Wilco the previous weekend at ACL.

I actually figured it out on my own as it aired; I'm pretty good at finding Easter eggs in various forms of media. My first success came when I watched Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" video for the first time on MTV 30 years ago. I noticed some numbers written on the chalkboard behind the dancing teacher and knew that they must have some sort of meaning, so I recorded it on a VCR and paused it a few times while I copied them down. It was a simple code that yielded a secret message -- try it yourself by watching the video on YouTube! The BB burial scene was filmed on Navajo land, so the produce
