  2. Anything is possible, but the circumstances you describe are exceedingly rare. So maybe a few thousand people have fallen through the cracks -- is asking them to spend a couple of dollars and a little bit of time too much to ask in order to prevent fraud? I just checked the Texas ID page and found that residents 60 and older can get an ID card that never expires. The cost? A whopping $6. I pay to vote every year: I burn gas to drive to my polling place. Four hours of her time is peanuts compared to the amount of time she'll spend on the actual voting process over the course of her life. P
  3. Now you're discriminating against people without thumbs!
  4. I'm for anything that eliminates voter fraud. I'd have no problem with the state/federal government subsidizing the cost of ID cards for anyone who doesn't already have one. She was a poll worker and voted illegally several different times. She deserves some jail time. It's hard to understand how the poor, elderly or anyone else can make it through life without ID. Applying for welfare benefits? Need to show ID. Flying? Need to show ID. Enrolling in school? Need to show ID. Interacting with the police? Need to show ID. Opening a bank account? Need to show ID. Cashing a check? Need to sho
  5. No, that's incorrect. I'm fine with showing IDs and undergoing a background check when I purchase a gun from a gun dealer. It would be ridiculous and a waste of time to show my driver license to my neighbor if I buy a shotgun from him.
  6. I don't know if they've had their day in court yet; it was just the first story that popped up in a Google search. I just added the word "convicted" to the Google search and came up with this case in which a woman was sentenced to 5 years for voter fraud.
  7. Thanks. I have lawn seats for Irvine and I was hoping to be able to see the interplay between the musicians if there are any collaborations between the bands.
  8. You're off by a decimal place (it's actually .001%) but that's not the point and it's certainly not the only election tainted by voter fraud. I'm concerned about any and all voter fraud and I don't think it's too much to for voters to show some sort of government ID in order to prove their identity. Hell, I have to show my ID to board a plane, so why not ask for ID when doing something as important as voting? Remember, George W. Bush won Florida -- and thus the presidency -- by 500 votes in 2000. That's an exceedingly small percentage of Florida voters, but the results affected each and every
  9. Have there been video screens at the outdoor shows?
  10. You're so good at putting words in other people's mouths that you should consider a career as a ventriloquist. For what it's worth, I don't watch Fox News (or whatever network he's on) and I doubt I could pick him out of a lineup.
  11. I was just disappointed to check out the newly released schedule for ACL and see that Wilco only play an hour. They go on just before Kings of Leon, who get 90 minutes as headliners on the Skyline Stage.
  12. I feel quite confident describing a prison full of Al Qaeda terrorists as being filled with bad guys, even if the term is rather innocuous and even if there are a couple of jaywalkers locked up among the AQ folks. Some bad guys attacked a prison to free some bad guys, some good guys and some bad guys were killed during the raid and now some good guys are rounding up the bad guys.

  14. If you won't admit that it's possible for Iraq to have rounded up thousands of Al Qaeda "bad guys" after many years of terrorist attacks (more than 250 dead in the last week and a half) -- despite confirmation from Al Qaeda itself that they staged the raid to free their brothers in arms -- then you might want to refrain from charging other posters with "willful ignorance."
  15. This is a second sex scandal that came after he resigned for being caught doing the exact same thing in the past. This has nothing to do with the Abu Ghraib prison of today. The United States emptied Abu Ghraib in 2006 and handed control of the prison to Iraq. The Iraqis reopened it in 2009 and filled it with thousands of Al Qaeda "bad guys" who have continued bombing and torturing their countrymen long after the United States withdrew its troops in 2011.
  16. These latest exchanges took place long after he resigned, so now it seems obvious that he's a serial creep and all of his apologies to his constituents and his wife were nothing but hot air.
  17. It's easier than typing 'depraved Islamist terrorists bent on overthrowing the government by any means necessary, including suicide bombs, rape, beheadings and torture involving electric drills applied to skulls and knees.' Forgive me, sometimes I'm lazy. For what it's worth, soldiers, Marines and special operations types often refer to their opponents as 'bad guys.' It's actually a pretty good catch-all description.
  18. They were most likely bad guys that were taking part in the Insurgency in Iraq. I'd imagine Iraqis have more to worry about than we do. Still, it's a bad thing.
  19. You see a lot of these on new Tacomas and Tundras in Texas:
  20. According to Wikipedia, they still make the F-150s in Michigan. They were making F-150s at the River Rouge plant in Dearborn when I took my son on a tour a few years ago. It wasn't nearly as impressive as the tour I took circa 1975 when they were smelting steel, making glass and assembling Mustangs.
  21. It's not just other countries: many of the auto manufacturing jobs moved to other states. Toyota builds their Tacoma and Tundra trucks here in San Antonio because Texas is a business-friendly state with low taxes, cheap utilities and a labor force that isn't highly unionized.
  22. That's rich. Or perhaps he'd be dead at Martin's hands. Trayvon Martin had every chance to go home, but he chose to physically attack George Zimmerman. His actions cost him his life.
