  1. As I mentioned earlier, Zimmerman wasn't on neighborhood watch patrol at the time of the incident. That said, the difference between neighborhood watch members and gang members is night and day: Neighborhood watches are typically coordinated by police departments. Cops train the members and work closely with the group. The purpose of the group is to aid the police department by serving as their eyes and ears in the community. They are the good guys. Gang members work outside of the law. They break the law. They hide from cops. They kill cops. They are the bad guys.
  2. He was not on neighborhood watch patrol at the time he shot Martin. He was on his way to the store when he noticed him. It's all Monday morning quarterbacking at this time. Zimmerman thought he was just keeping an eye on Martin until the cops arrived. Martin thought Zimmerman was a creepy-ass, gay cracka preparing to rape him. I'm sure they both wish (or would have wished) that they'd done things differently that night but, as it stands, no laws were broken by George Zimmerman. From my post on April 11th: Please note that I don't think banning magazines of any kind will result in a lo
  3. I have no feelings whatsoever about him personally, but I must ask why you feel compelled to describe him as a piece of garbage. Trayvon Martin was 4 inches taller than Zimmerman and had no visible injuries other than the fatal bullet wound. Zimmerman had a flattened, broken nose and wounds to the back of his head. It's clear that Martin was beating the crap out of Zimmerman.
  4. The prosecution admitted that "We don't need you to do that" was ambiguous at best.
  5. I never said that and it's not what I believe. I never said that and it's not what I believe. I never said that and it's not what I believe. I never said that and it's not what I believe. I never said that and it's not what I believe. 0-for-5 in the truth department, but you're batting a thousand in putting words in my mouth.
  6. Zimmerman is the only living witness to the entire event, so you can't discount his recollection completely or the case would be nothing but a big question mark. The things that are clear: 1) Zimmerman had an obviously broken nose. That's consistent with what he said about Martin punching him in the nose. 2) He had lacerations on the back of his head. That's consistent with what he said about Martin slamming his head on the sidewalk. 3) Zimmerman's back was wet and covered with grass and a doctor testified that the pistol was in contact with Martin's clothing and that the clothing was
  7. Neither Martin nor Zimmerman had committed a crime right up until the moment that Zimmerman was attacked by Martin. As soon as Martin began banging Zimmerman's head on the ground, reaching for his gun and telling Zimmerman that he was "gonna die tonight", Zimmerman was completely justified in using deadly force to prevent his own death. George Zimmerman could easily have wound up dead instead of Trayvon Martin. There is no proof that he was acting as anything more than a concerned neighbor.
  8. It is. When I see an obviously lost child in a store I don't approach him/her and instead just keep an eye on them from a distance until the frantic parents arrive. If a store employee or customer walks by I ask them to alert store security. It's tough to just stand by and watch the child panic, but it's in my best interest to avoid approaching him/her. He was looking for a street number and was behind the dwellings where the numbers weren't visible. I don't think a neighborhood watch volunteer is expected to memorize every house number. Yep. He gets death threats every day. He needs to
  9. Those calls were made over 7.5 years, so they aren't really excessive.
  10. In our universe. Many men -- myself included -- avoid getting close to young children if they are strangers because of the very real fear that they could be seen as potential child molesters/kidnappers. I was a single parent who raised 2 children from the ages of 1 and 2 through adulthood and I can tell you that I experienced this firsthand several times. Once I was doing some research at a library in Orlando and my kids were quietly reading books 8 feet away from me. A woman approached them and said, "Why aren't you in school? Who is that man? Are you supposed to be with him? Where's your m
  11. I just looked up the full police transcript. It also says that Zimmerman reported that the boy was walking alone and unsupervised on a busy street and he was concerned for the boy's well-being. The police reports from all of Zimmerman's 911 and non-emergency calls can be viewed here. Yep, although it can be sad, justified and legal all at the same time.
  12. Zimmerman made 46 calls to 911 or the non-emergency line over the last few years, yet you listed only the 6 or 7 which mention African-Americans. Perhaps the "pattern" is of your own making? And as soon as they used their weapons in an unlawful manner they became criminals.
  13. Was that necessary? Perhaps you could try treating me with the same politeness that I treat you. It's not really all that difficult. No, it's: anyone legally owning/using a gun = good citizen. Anyone illegally owning/using a gun = criminal. That's simply untrue. Any law enforcement officer who feels that his life is threatened can, and often will, use deadly force to protect himself. Hell, cops will open fire on a car if the driver so much as runs over their big toe. I guarantee you that if you overpower a law enforcement officer, start bashing his head on the concrete and reach for his
  14. I imagine it probably is, but all of my neighbors are armed and we have a neighborhood watch. Last Monday I attended the annual HOA meeting and a sheriff's deputy addressed the crowd and urged everyone to report any and all suspicious activity that they might observe.
  15. Zimmerman has said that he was trying to find a street number.
  16. Everything I've said is true; I'm not a liar. With one exception*, all of my friends/neighbors live on my street and one street over. We party together, dine together and vacation together. Our social group is densely packed into the 2 streets and includes almost every resident of those streets. It's an incredible gathering of great people. Several residents are former renters who loved the neighborhood so much that they bought homes 2 or 3 lots down the street. I've had houseguests (an Army buddy I haven't seen in 15 years, her husband and daughter) for the last 2 weeks and they love it he
  17. I know the names of exactly 3 streets in my neighborhood. There are streets a hundred yards away that I don't know the names of and that I've never driven or walked. If you're familiar with the waistband type of holster Zimmerman wore, then you know that the entire grip and much of the pistol's frame extends above the waistband. His jacket covered it and he says that the pistol was revealed when his jacket was pulled up during the fight and ensuing struggle. Or maybe charges wouldn't be filed until more than 6 weeks after the shooting? And then, only because of strong political pressure
  18. Absolutely. There is no proof whatsoever that George Zimmerman is a racist. He has African-American relatives; African-American neighbors, friends and coworkers have defended his character and he participated in protests over the beating of an African-American man by the son of a local cop. Sorry to see you go. I think it's been a nice discussion.
  19. Racist remarks are just as offensive when uttered by someone who is putting words in another person's mouth.
  20. What are those lies? They didn't seem to convince the jury -- or the police, since they chose not to arrest him for several weeks. He was walking back to his truck when Martin approached him and punched him as he tried to call the police again. He didn't have to. He could have just continued back to his father's girlfriend's house just a short distance away, but he chose to attack Zimmerman instead. I won't admit it because there's no way to tell. The media has fanned the flames with implications of racism, but there is no evidence whatsoever that Zimmerman is a racist. That's your
  21. Vigilantism is vigilantism. Murdering George Zimmerman after he was found innocent by a jury would be an inexcusable, modern day lynching. And if Trayvon Martin hadn't attacked George Zimmerman he would still be alive. If he had just walked home he would still be alive. If he had waited to talk to the cops he would still be alive. Monday morning quarterbacking is easy. For me, the most telling moment of all came when the detectives were interviewing Zimmerman and implied that they might have video footage of the incident and he replied, "Thank God."
  22. I don't believe that disregarding advice is a crime. That said, by the time the dispatcher told Zimmerman "Ok, we don't need you to do that" he had already lost sight of Martin and was walking back to his truck to meet police officers. That's when Martin came after him and instigated the fight. I recommend that everyone watch the reenactment/walkthrough that Zimmerman and detectives conducted a few hours after the tragic events unfolded. http://youtu.be/PX1sxARNq_c After they beat your head on the concrete and tell you that you're going to die? Yes. Hopefully the irony of cheering on
  23. The jury has spoken in the Zimmerman case. Hopefully that's the last of it.
  24. Feeling a little apocalyptic?
  25. Wilco, MMJ and Dylan tour constantly; the Stones only tour every few years and I doubt they have many more left in them. $600 was the top price for Stones tickets and they had to release a lot of sub-$100 seats to sell out their shows. Tickets for the Dylan tour top out at more than $200, so they ain't exactly cheap.
