  1. Your concise posts and impeccable writing style are valuable contributions to this discussion. Oooh, let's imply that anyone who disagrees with him is a racist!
  2. Several states have decided that politicians/judges/prosecutors/retired cops should be exempt from the new guns laws that they've enacted regarding magazine size, "assault" weapons and the like; other states, including Texas, are considering such laws, because for many government officials, laws are only for the little people. It's nice to see that Texas shot down such a provision and it was a strong bipartisan effort to boot. "Republicans and Democrats alike denounced the bill, saying it was wrong to allow themselves perks that others didn’t have. The procedural vote to take up the bill was
  3. Those faucets sell for $400, so I'm sure they won't have trouble coming up with the cash. I'd imagine that Mr. Kotche's house was recently fitted with a bunch of expensive faucets.

  5. It reminds me of the Capitol from The Hunger Games.
  6. I never said that, either. I am opposed to new legislation that would turn me, a person who has never been arrested or charged with a crime, into a felon because I own a piece of plastic with a spring in it. Insinuating that American gun owners are somehow complicit in the murders of children -- or at the very least unconcerned about murdered children -- is exactly the sort of scare and smear tactic that anti-gun politicians are trying to use as an excuse for depriving law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights, and those politicians are directly responsible for the record sales
  7. It's a mystery to me why you make such claims despite the fact that I don't think anyone has ever said such a thing -- here or anywhere else. Gun homicides are down greatly over the last 20 years -- even as Americans are buying firearms at a record pace, but anti-gun politicians don't want anyone to know it.
  8. More passive than aggressive, but it points out what happens when the bad guys have guns and the good guys (including the cops) don't. It's outrageous that it took 20 minutes for the cops to arrive in the middle of the day in the middle of London, but it's nice to see that ordinary citizens weren't afraid to confront the murderers and attempt to aid the victim. The cops should take some pointers from them. It looks like this was the gun control thread (I think there were more than one) so strike that bit about me being lazy.
  9. I was too lazy to find the gun control thread.
  10. Two Islamist terrorists shot and beheaded a British soldier in broad daylight in the middle of London today and it took 20 minutes for police to arrive because they were waiting for armed officers. They even had time to give a blood-soaked interview before the cops arrived and shot them. It's a good thing they didn't decide to start hacking up all the bystanders in the meantime.
  11. I'd go full Kaczynski and spend the rest of my days in a cabin in the wilderness if my friends wanted to talk about politics day in and day out.
  12. The liner notes from Scoop: Typical Townshend memory lapse.
  13. Yes, they should be in prison if they started a war despite knowing that the intelligence was wrong, but there's no proof that they did so.
  14. 99 in San Antonio and the same is predicted today -- and my downstairs air conditioner appears to have given up the ghost. Looking forward to some cooler weather in North Adams next month. Many years ago, my daughter met Jeff Tweedy for the first time before a gig in England and told him that he looked like Slugworth from the 1971 film.
  15. It's very simple: lies, coverups and the abuse of power by our politicians should never be tolerated and should be punished to the full extent of the law. I get my news from places like the BBC, NYT and the Washington Post: are those right-wing media outlets? EDIT: You know it's bad when they've even lost Piers Morgan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lKO8A285Rr0
  16. Don't warrant attention? Even by the media? I strongly disagree. Imagine how the political landscape might have changed six weeks before the election had it emerged that the current administration lied about a terror attack that killed 4 Americans, was siccing the IRS on conservative groups and was spying on the Associated Press. There's a reason that even Democratic politicians and left-leaning news organizations are pressing the administration on these issues: it's clear that lies, cover-ups and abuses of power took place and we need to ensure that the responsible parties are punished, no
  17. The administration knew within hours that it was a terror attack (September 11th: duh) but this is what was presented to the public: September 13 -- Jay Carney "The protests we're seeing around the region are in reaction to this movie. They are not directly in reaction to any policy of the United States or the government of the United States or the people of the United States." September 16 -- Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, on CNN's "State of the Union" with Candy Crowley "There was a hateful video that was disseminated on the Internet. It had nothing to do with the Uni
  18. I think you'll find that most of the "blame Obama" people will say that they do so after 8 years of "blame Bush." Goose and gander, I suppose.
  19. It was a gig at a university in Oxford. The audience was described as "stuffy debutantes and undergraduates." The Jazzmaster was stolen later that evening. I think the people in the front are plugging their ears and reacting to the noise/feedback.
  20. Pete Townshend with a Jazzmaster in 1967. There's an extensive list of his gear (with photos) here: http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/history.html
  21. President Nixon didn't break into a building, his downfall was trying to cover it up. President Clinton didn't commit a crime when he got a BJ in the Oval Office, he was impeached because he lied about it. President Obama didn't break any laws in Benghazi, but if it can be proved that he and his administration didn't act on requests for more security, then he needs to be called on the carpet for it. The same goes for placing the blame on a Youtube video instead of admitting that it was a September 11th attack by jihadis. The American people should not be lied to by their elected leaders.
  22. Thanks for making a significant contribution to the discussion!
  23. Lies and coverups by government officials should always be investigated and those responsible should be punished. Look at Watergate: it was only a couple of burglaries but it brought down a president. Nobody died at Watergate; four Americans died in Benghazi.
