West, Texas is actually in North Central Texas

I've only driven past on I-35, but the next time I'm in the area I'll stop in for some kolaches. -
Pissy? All I asked was if you had read the form. Please show me the same politeness as I've shown you if you'd like me to continue discussing the subject at hand. I'm not a liar and I don't "make shit up." I'm pretty good at prefacing my opinions and suppositions with phrases like "I believe" or "I reckon" so I'd rather not have to mark up my posts like a university term paper. If you question something I've written I'll be happy to provide a link if asked nicely, but you could probably Google it on your own in a few seconds. You had me at 'Fast and Furious.' Because the NRA is the on

If people knowingly sign a falsified document and it's a felony to do so, they should be prosecuted. I'm going to assume that more than 45 people do so each year. But the biggest farce is that it's already illegal for convicted felons, the mentally ill and drug users to purchase or possess firearms but the law hasn't stopped it from happening. Why does anyone think that making it illegal-er will change that fact?

Have you ever read the form? The only way someone who properly fill out the form should fail the check is if he/she lied about their mental health history, criminal record, etc. That's assuming that nobody is stupid enough to try to buy a gun and answer "yes" to something like "Are you a convicted felon whose right to possess firearms has been rescinded." As Winston mentioned, many of the failures are clerical, such as an incorrect Social Security number. The background checks are not actually stopping many criminals from acquiring guns because they are cheaper and readily available on the s

From ATF Form 4473: Yeah, because that's exactly how it happened.

And how are gun crimes in Chicago these days? Still in the running for Murder City USA? If you think that legal, responsible gun owners are the ones to blame for the nation's gun crime you're hopelessly uninformed.
-
I don't worry about it because only 0.7% of criminals purchased their guns at gun shows. 80% of the weapons on the street were stolen and/or purchased illegally on the street and only a fool would think that such criminals would suddenly feel compelled to undergo a background check that they would surely fail. Here's something to chew on: tens of thousands of people fail existing background checks every year. How many are prosecuted? Forty or 50. It's a farce.

The poll surveyed a whopping 1,772 people and all it asked was if the respondent supported background checks for individual-to-individual sales at gun shows. Government figures show that an insignificant 0.7% of criminals purchased their firearm at a gun show. The failed legislation wouldn't have done a thing to "save our children." I'd like to see a poll that asks if respondents are aware that every new gun sold in the United States already requires a background check. I suspect that non- gun owners and people who live in certain areas of the country are completely unaware of this fact.

There's this thing called politeness that you should try sometime.

Looks like they've identified a suspect. I hope they make the bastard run 26.2 miles barefoot over broken glass before executing him.

Absolutely, but questioning my patriotism was uncalled for.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I DID join the Army to defend my country and I DID feel that it was my civic duty. I could easily have taken any job that offered medical insurance. I wanted to serve my country as my father, grandfather and great-grandfather had done before me. And no, I am not receiving any sort of public pension. Why must people try to repaint others with their own brush? I'm not trying to unveil you as a closet Republican conservative, so why try to pick my words apart? Live and let live, right?

I'm visiting my kids and grandson in Orange County. At the moment, I'm sitting in my daughter's 2-bedroom apartment that costs them just shy of $30,000 per year to rent. Add in a couple of car payments, student loan payments, medical costs and the typical monthly bills and you can see that $100k doesn't go very far here. The tax burden is especially high in California -- my daughter mailed a $1200 check to the state tax board this morning. I'm glad that Texas doesn't have a state income tax.

You're mistaken. No big deal, however. I've lived in places where $100,000 would barely guarantee you a warm bed to sleep in. I'm not wealthy. I don't think I'm saving enough to retire comfortably. I joined the Army to pay for my wife's medical bills. I raised 2 kids from the age of 18 months through adulthood as a single parent and my ex-wife contributed exactly zero dollars during that time. I racked up big student loans and paid them off as was required. I received food stamps (unexpectedly) and removed myself from the program.

My grandfather died 45 years ago when I was a wee lad, but I still remember him telling me that it was his favorite movie.

One of the greats. I had a chemistry teacher who looked just like him and could do a perfect impersonation.

It's a pump shotgun but I suppose some states might not like how many shells it can hold (8+1). I've checked handguns and rifles with my bags on occasion but I'm always worried that my flight will make an unscheduled stop in a less-friendly state and I'll wind up behind bars for having a locally banned firearm or magazine.

Nice. I've been waiting almost 6 months and this still isn't in stock anywhere.

Will Obamacare cover sense of humor restoration surgery? Honestly, I think that calling an (online) acquaintance a cold motherfucker who wants to trample the poor and elderly is much more offensive than someone joking about cutting Social Security. I suppose people like Colbert should stop making jokes about North Korea because thermonuclear war is actually a terrible thing that could kill millions of people?
-
He made it clear that he supported Social Security, so his comment about cutting it 100% was obviously a joke. Why the rush to demonize people who have a slightly different point of view?
-
I took it as a joke.

Please explain.

Where do you people get this stuff? P.S. My grandparents paid for my grandparents.
