It'd be nice to see anti-gun law enforcement organizations struggling to find ammo like Joe Citizen is doing at the moment.

Meteorite violence far from home...

They're idiots if they claim to have done so. -
Hagel's hearing was a train wreck. However distasteful the method, it's in the nation's best interest that he is not confirmed.

It'd be nice to see companies like Smith & Wesson, Glock and the ammo manufacturers participate in the sales boycott of states that attempt to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. What's good for the goose ...

They don't like to advertise it, but their guns are loaded with glitter bullets that weekend, although they're more likely to zap you with a Tickle Taser first.

Some Googling says it was Lagunitas. I'm drinking a bottle of their Little Sumpin' Sumpin' at this very moment, so it sounds like they stepped up their game.

Was the beer availability/selection better at SS2? I was at the first one and all I remember was Magic Hat brews (not a personal favorite) and the IPA sold out quickly.

Old, fat and bald ... that's pretty much the dad rock demographic, right?

I'll be there. I guess I'll probably leave the gun at home since Massachusetts doesn't recognize my concealed handgun license. Pity, because Texas is nice enough to allow Massachusetts license holders to carry in our fair state.

I have no problem with that. Gangs are responsible for 25% of our nation's murders. Going after gang members makes more sense than going after Joe Hunter and his rifles.

The recidivism rate for people jailed on gun charges is something like 75%. Maybe possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime should result in a lifetime sentence without chance of parole. Many lives would be saved.

Live your life by statistics, if you choose. Myself, when I hear someone break a window in my house I'm going to reach for a 12-gauge rather than crunch numbers in my head. I've answered that question at least 5 or 6 more times. I'm not going to continue repeating myself every time you don't like my answer.

I didn't watch it because I hate celebrities telling me how I should think politically. I have nothing against Stewart, but I'd rather poke my own eyes out than listen to a celebrity yammer on about politics. I'm looking at you, Colbert, Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Danny Glover, Alec Baldwin, Nugent, Limbaugh, Hannity, Tweedy, etc.

I wouldn't call them both long shots, as people defend themselves with guns every day of the year, while nobody has yet tried to remove all guns from private owners. Think more along the lines of a 6-foot tall, 600-pound safe. As I've said over and over again, different countries have different cultures. Gun crimes were relatively rare in the UK before guns were removed, so it should come as no surprise that gun crimes are still relatively rare. Absolutely incorrect. It has been refuted and you have chosen to ignore my explanations. If you live in a building you are infinitely more

Your repeated attempts to paint me into a corner despite my well-explained responses speak volumes about your inability to accept that people might have different views of the world. Let's save some time here: Ok, I believe that an individual's rights trump those of the community. Then you can say, "So your right to own a gun means that my children might get mown down by a psychopath at their school? You selfish, heartless bastard!" Then I can say, "I was just kidding, I believe that the rights of the community trump those of the individual. By the way, our community is getting a little

Even Joe Biden has his doubts about more legislation: There aren't 300 million unregistered vehicles on our streets.
-
So now we're talking about a national registry and a national licensing scheme? Sounds like an expensive and unenforceable proposition, considering that there are 300 million guns in this nation and not even the government knows where most of them are.
-
That will never be a "yes or no" question. We're not a nation like North Korea where everyone is a drone in service to the collective. We're a nation of individuals who acknowledge the need for a government to provide services. One of the services that we pay for is security, and the various organizations do a reasonably good job of protecting us, but I would never rely solely on the government for my protection -- even more so if armed government agencies try to disarm me.
-
I thought you were talking about a firearm firing backwards toward the user and couldn't understand how that could happen. I believe my right to protect myself is more important than anything the community does to protect me, yes. The community enacts traffic laws to protect us but if I'm facing a life-threatening medical emergency I'll break the speed limit and roll through stop signs to get to the hospital as quickly as possible.

What about when Mr. Criminal buys a gun from Mr. Thug -- will he follow the law and submit to a background check? Straw buyers currently go to a gun store, pass a background check, buy a gun legally and then sell it illegally to a bad guy. How would this additional layer of background checks stop this illegal transfer from happening? I'm not at all scared; my life is very peaceful and I feel secure. This is the Internet, so call me a crybaby if it makes you feel better.
-
Such info is already obtained at the first legal sale of a firearm. You're assuming that Joe Thug would decide to pop down for a background check when he buys a street gun from Charles Gangbanger. Not gonna happen. It would also aid in the confiscation of firearms if the government ever decides to go that route.
-
The proposed legislation will do nothing to stop straw purchasers. A straw purchaser is able to pass a background check or he wouldn't be of much use. Straw purchases account for most of the guns on the street and in every case they have passed a background check and passed the gun to a bad guy. How will new legislation prevent this, it's already illegal. Have you looked at the shelves in your local sporting goods store, Walmart or gun shop lately? There's no ammo on the shelves and when new supplies trickle in the stores limit customers to a single box. Americans have stockpiled tens of bi

"I think they're useful tools and they are fun to shoot." "I'm not afraid, I want to be prepared."

I don't break laws. I don't hurt people. All I want to do is be able to protect myself. Communities need and deserve protection and protection begins with the individual with a second layer of defense coming from guys in uniform. Until I have a 24/7 squad of bodyguards (like our elected officials enjoy) I would like to carry on protecting myself the way I see fit, while letting the guys in uniform go after the bad guys. As it stands, there are too many bad guys on the street with guns in their waistbands. As for nations like the UK that have essentially banned guns:
