The Who - 11/03/12, Orlando, FL (Amway Arena)
Hixter replied to Mr. Heartbreak's topic in After The Show
I was also at the Orlando show and I must admit that it was better than I'd expected; Daltrey's throat surgery has noticeably improved his singing. It was a fitting bookend to my first show: Orlando 1982. The B-52s weren't very well received that day and Joan Jett didn't fare much better, but at least she was able to finish her set. Pro-shot, VHS-quality video of the Orlando surfaced a year or two ago. It's a copy of the video feed that was projected on the big screen at the dangerously crowded Tangerine Bowl that night. A couple of quotes from his website: "It's been really hard to take this, the TECH TALK dept., very seriously (as you may have noticed.) Though I can get as nerdy as the next person when it comes to blab about gear, technique, etc., it really isn't what I'm about - in fact, it's kind of beside the point entirely (the Point being: self expression, creativity, the individual's voyage of discovery, etc.)" "If i can save time for somebody by sharing what i know/feel, then fine. I'm a bit more pre-disposed to talk about thoery/composition than i am about technique on guitar and equipment. In fa

If you're a beer lover you could do worse than stopping by Wynkoop Brewing. It's in the general area and I always have a great time there.

Nice to see President Obama coming around to Dick Cheney's point of view ...

I never watch House but a friend was watching it while I was visiting and a lengthy chunk of Black Moon played near the end of the episode.
-
Back when Pete Townshend had a blog (maybe 5 years ago?) his profile listed this under "favorite music": "anything by Flaming Lips or Wilco"
-
Tinariwen won the World Music Album Grammy, so one member of Wilco sort of won tonight.

Unless you can convert it to a region-free player which many players are capable of -- especially the cheap ones. Just Google "your_DVD_player_model region free" for instructions (if it's possible.) A couple of button presses on the remote and my player is now region-free.

Speaking of The Who, I just noticed a time traveling Jeff Tweedy in this video from 1968. Check around the 3:25 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=Hje28F-IhLo

Glad to see the burning violin (take that, Jessy Greene); MTV edited that part out. I guess they were worried that kids would try it at home?

"The banks" aren't faceless entities that are out to suck up every last penny; they have shareholders who expect them to turn a profit and and most of that profit ended in in the 401ks and stock portfolios of average citizens, many of whom ran out and spent beyond their means because they thought the bubble would never burst and they were absolutely certain that their overpriced homes would continue to appreciate. I have a good friend who bought a ridiculously overpriced house at the peak of the market and then stopped paying his mortgage more than a year ago because he was hideously under w

It's not quite that simple. Thousands (perhaps millions) of Americans willingly participated in -- and profited from -- the boom that preceded the bust. Anyone who sold a home for a profit (or bought one in hopes of profiting), went into foreclosure because they were upside down or watched as their 401k blossomed was a co-conspirator with the banks and Wall Street. When home prices were going up 5% a month you were taking a big risk if you bought, and made big profits if you sold; that's where a lot of the "missing" money went. For every Wall Street banker who made a $50 million bonus there

And now it's gone.

Kung Fu's e-mail response: Thanks so much for emailing us and pointing this out. The dictionary that is used is supposed to have “bad” words removed, but obviously that is not the case. I’m very sorry you were emailed such an offensive password. We’re looking into changing the way our passwords are generated online. Again, we appreciate the email.
-
I just pre-ordered the new album and this is the password that Kung Fu's site generated when I couldn't remember my existing password. Kung Fu should probably remove this word from their dictionary before someone is offended. your password has been reset. New password: nigger99,cub (I've already changed it.)

I guess this is a good place to upload this video of Nels and Mike Watt performing TV Eye in1999. My friend and I filmed it and I just came across a dusty DVD that I burned years ago.

Some interesting stuff including: "I made another Black Gang album with Nels Cline and Bob Lee that I gotta mix, where I asked Nels Cline to just play the most psychedelic guitar ever, and it's a pretty big Nels Cline tour de force." http://flagpole.com/Weekly/Homedrone/MikeWattOnMikeWatt-24Mar11

There are reports that the Israeli Mossad numbers stations have gone silent on the shortwave bands after decades of operation. This includes YHF which was famously sampled on the album. http://mt-milcom.blogspot.com/2011/03/e10-mossad-hf-numbers-stations-sk.html

Live Webcast: Nels Cline with The Celestial Septet
Hixter replied to parallelliott's topic in Just A Fan
I see that Nels has added some shows to his calendar, including one with Deerhoof and another with Devin Hoff on the bill. -
Fooling around with the website's search feature I found what appears to be the lineup with and without Sonic Youth. SPOILERS AHEAD: http://solidsoundfestival.com/splash-with-sonic-youth http://solidsoundfestival.com/splash-no-sonic-youth

I was just checking out the festival's website on my iPhone and the (seemingly incomplete/unusable) mobile version had a few interesting tidbits that didn't seem to link to anything in particular: SPLASH WITH SONIC YOUTH SPLASH NO SONIC YOUTH DAVE DOUGLAS & BRASS ECSTASY So it appears that Sonic Youth may or may not appear at the festival.
