I guess what I'm saying is that's it's sexier to talk about love love love than it is to live it. Paul was (as far as I know) 100% committed to Linda. How great was Lennon's love for Yoko that he needed May Pang?

I didn't love it or loathe it, but I liked it. I was disappointed for a couple of reasons, one less important to me than the other; one, the film is not one big Nazi bloodfest like it's been hyped to be (the Basterds are not even the stars of the film), and two, the writing and direction is not on par with (at least) Kill Bill. Less important is the disappointment in the way it's being marketed. The moments of snappy, awesome, yes! moments were just too few and far between. One could argue that it's a different type of film that he's made here, but there are really some moments that fall kind

The four of them (taken broadly, as caricatures) have distinct personalities that each view life from disparate points. Taken together, they become a pastiche of ways to deal with life. I think that's what makes them to appealing as characters. Paul: driven to succeed with optimism as fuel John: acerbic wit that helps cope with the insanity of the world George: humble quietude in deference to all we do not know Ringo: happy-go-lucky, let the chips fall where they may And of course there's peace and love, which they all feed off of.

It's funny too (might as well drudge up everything about them) that in regards to their wives, John talked a lot about love love love, but Paul really lived it.

You quoting Papelbon?

Your Friends & Neighbors comes to mind - after seeing that I wanted to curl into a ball and hope people like that didn't really exist. Also, Happiness.

As far as who-wrote-what, this site is pretty good as a database of interview quotes: http://www.beatlesinterviews.org/index2.html I'd wager Analogman has a link or two regarding this question.

John's legacy of course has the advantage of John's being dead.

Paul certainly seems like a more pleasant fellow than John.

I love Bottle Rocket, but I'm usually surprised when I hear others like it.

That bit with Luke mourning Ben Kenobi - brilliant!

Friends With Money - Four women, longtime friends whose lives seem defined by how much or how little money they have. Clever writing from director Nicole Holofcener: she has an uncanny knack for conversation. Good performances from all involved, though I wish I could get around Jennifer Aniston's celebrity. Whenever I see her in a 'good' role, I can't help over-critiquing her. Is she any good? I think so, maybe?

My in-laws have John Cleese (as an option) on theirs. We used it one day, and it was actually pretty entertaining. I'd probably drive off the road listening to Dylan. Note there's no comments from any GPS companies - Dylan's probably just fucking with us, again.

That's what you get for '86.

I just got home from it, and feel pretty much the same way. Some of the slower parts I could forgive as they seemed left in for the sake of forwarding the story, but surprisingly most of the signature Tarantino ratchet-up-the-tension moments felt pretty airless. And while hyperviolent in places, it's certainly not the kill-Nazi-a-second bloodbath that it's been sold as. Which was okay, once I adjusted. Brad Pitt is hilarious, and the guy who plays Hans Landa is just wondrously monstrous.

"No talking during football, Yankee!"

Ahh. Thanks for that link. I've always assumed any funky shit I heard was on purpose. Apparently not.

Where did you get that figure? I've always noticed (on tape and CD anyway) this: But the site doesn't say that was a result of the stereo mix, or if it was on the original release.

Well, there's the NL, then there's the Padres.

Yeah, I did not enjoy the vocal stylings of that reporter at all. But a nice piece. Yes, plus noting that Wilco has sold 4 million copies of their 8 records worldwide and have won 2 Grammys "despite zero exposure on top 40 radio" is not exactly a congruous statement.

Not a great weekend for the Red Sox, but I do like Terry Francona's new glasses.

Did Flanagan do the piece on REM circa the Accelerate release? That was very good.

Every time I see the title I hear the British voice from BAD's Megatop Phoenix say "I don't like music." Then I click in and remember I'm in the Drive By Truckers thread.
