I just watched that here. Whose holy burial ground did the Mets piss on?

You misspelled a couple of words there: So I fixed it for you. I can understand where you're coming from - I don't think anyone would argue that the Wilco of today is looser and more ragged than the Wilco of 1999. But the way you frame your argument is outrageous.

60 Minutes is fully dedicated to creator Don Hewitt tonight. So far, it's terrific.

Man On Wire - documentary buoyed by a compelling story, imaginative, dreamy reenactments, and priceless vintage footage (Petite must've come from money - his personal footage of the era looks like 16mm, and even some early video camerawork, maybe). The one huge disappointment was the absence of him talking about the moment he shared with a seagull hovering above him as he lay on the wire between the towers. Another earlier doc I saw (a history of the towers themselves) mentioned it, and it was so sublime and wondrous, it was nearly all I took away from that doc. I'd been looking forward to it

This is the nail-on-head bottom line. But it's the mythology of rock - speculation is part of the fun.

So Hawaii was not a state when Pearl Harbor was attacked? I don't think I ever knew that.
-
Well every one of your questions is colored by the comment "I am bored to tears with those records" and makes me wonder why you're even remotely interested.
-
I don't know much about Son Volt so I'm really wondering - was there ever another member of that group who was considered remotely integral?

I don't think I've ever listened to it backwards. There was that site a while ago that had all the elements separated out and you could build your own #9.

Sometimes I listen to Revolution #9 twice in a row.

So the CDs I have are all I need. Got it.

I wonder if it will be a feature, or if it will just be the last segment of the show, with the band walking around in the wild, no narration.
-
Well, I could maybe do without 'Black Man' on there - maybe. I mean, I like it and all, but it's the one I sometimes skip when listening all the way through.

I just want to make clear I think I kind of over-defended RS in my post. It does suck a lot.

Yeah BoB at #1 is almost as cool as when Spin picked Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock's It Takes Two as the #1 song of the '80s. But the '00s have been defined by hip hop - it would've been kinda ridiculous if it wasn't represented at #1.
-
I think this was it.

Southland, right.

I forget what I heard, I should try again w/headphones. Are those links still live?

C'mon, you know anything's funny when done right. And I say 'you know' because of your avatar.

Wasn't that LA cop show supposed to be just that? I forget the name, but it was hyped to death as ER was ending.
-
That's not totally fair though - I can see that RS phones it in many times when it comes to topical music (ie Wilco has a new album, so throw a Wilco piece together for their rabid fans). But they've done some interesting stuff even recently: the Kris Kristofferson interview from a few months back and the Ginger Baker (what a nut) one in the latest Obama issue come to mind. Maybe those aren't great 'music' stories, but they're definitely compelling pieces about musicians.

Seriously. It's like they want me confused enough that I buy everything they're offering. I bought them all on cassette in the 80s, then on CD later in the decade, then a bunch on vinyl in the 90s/now. I bought the Anthologies on CD and DVD. Will I really get "more" out of these releases sonically? I listened to those two Taxman clips - couldn't hear a remarkable difference. Is it because of my little stereo speakers?
