  1. Ok, I'm about to just give up here. I've never had a problem getting a webcast before, but I can't get this one at all. Quicktime starts up, does the loading countdown, then the words "switching transports" come up, and nothing further happens. I don't even know what "switching transports" means. WTF?????

    HELP! :angry :no

  2. he looked more happy there in the vid than in b'ham. Maybe had some drinks. B'ham was wierd though...you could hear a pin drop. never thought I'd be at a show with that many people being quiet.

Jeff's a nondrinker. Sounds like the crowd was a really nice one. :thumbup Anybody have The Minus 5 setlist?

  3. Am I the only person on earth who has no idea what a superball is. Please enlighten me.

These days they are more commonly called "High-Bounce balls". The originals were about 2" in diameter, made of rock-hard pure black rubber, and were really dangerous. You could put an eye out and stuff. They were basically rocks that bounced. If you threw one down hard, you could easily get a fifteen foot bounce out of it.

Before superballs, balls were just balls, and fairly boring. And somehow the now-common hi-bounce balls that you find everywhere just don't have the same magic.

The big ones here are the ones I'm remembering nostalgically:

  4. Just finished this...it's a great story, very unusual and fascinating. I read until I was bleary-eyed last night, wanting to know how it all turned out. Highly recommended.

Next up, some wonderful books from a certain secret Santa. Oh Boy! :w00t

Jahilia, that Jaynes book looks intriguing! :yes

  5. Note: Kidsmoke just referred to him/herself in the third person.

Yes, kidsmoke worries herself a bit when she does that. :P

We have live crickets in the house as food for the kids' frogs and toads. We transfer them from purchase-bag to their holding bin with the utmost care, but a few brave souls always manage to vault to freedom. Glenn can come over anytime he needs crickets, because there are usually a few spares running loose....not as many as at Nonlinear's house, though. :lol

  6. :w00t Lucky!!

:yes Lucky, and dangerous! Does it really get any better? I'm not even going to get into climbing over the freight cars when they were stopped at our favorite crossing coming home from school. kidsmoke is fortunate to have survived childhood. B)

So how about that Glenn and those fake crickets?!

  7. Glenn has an article in March's Modern Drummer mag about glueing coins to his brushes and making mallets out of superballs cut in half.

    True story.

Not that this has much at all to do with this thread....ok, nothing at all....but when superballs were first invented, the fat 2' diameter black hard rubber ones.....we lived close to a superball factory and my 2 big brothers would go down there and collect the factory rejects that were slightly misshapen or had a lump on them......They'd bring home boxes of them! Man could those thing bounce! :blink And talk about unpredictable!!!!!! :w00t And talk about your parents yelling and telling you to get away from the big glass patio doors!!!!!!!!! :P

Those were the days, my friends. B)

  8. It's my favorite time of year to have a birthday!

    Happy birthday!

Personally, I feel it is the only time of year to have a birthday! :cheers

A toast to our own dear huh? What? Basil, without whom VC would have significantly less spice! :cheekkiss :beer :rock :worship

And now, Basil cake: this is what came up when I put "Basil cake" in the search engine. Who am I to argue?

Have a wonderful day and a wonderful new year of life, Robert! :thumbup B)

  9. Happy day to you my sweet birthday sister! :cheekkiss

Looking forward to more of this...

Happy, happy, happy, happy, happy to my dear birthday sister, who has graced the planet with her beautiful self for half a century now!!!!! :cheers (I'm still winning, by the way.... :lol )

I figure, if you're going to share a birthday, only share it with the very best. Love ya, Chris. :cheekkiss

Thank you, everyone, for all the love and good wishes. There isn't a better set of internet friends anywhere, and I feel very blessed to be in your company. :wub

  10. The whole show was amazing. the highlights were "Spiders" (the old version), "Jesus, Etc;" (the one song where EVERY drunk shut up and sang :-P), "Acuff Rose", and "Dreamer in My Dreams" (both done completely unplugged.)

He was as funny as ever though tonight. The gay joke, impressions of audience members, taking requests from only people who raised their hand...Jeff was on fire.

I could've gone for "Wishful Thinking" though ::Sigh:: oh well :-)

Even if it means that you start sipping Seabreezes and walking mincingly, you've gotta figure a show like that makes it worth it, right? :wub

Now excuse me, I need to go put up some drywall in our garage. :pirate Where's my damned ballpeen hammer?
