I'll add the Monkees to the list. It's a nice refreshing throwback album.

My three teen daughters were floored when they learned that Lorde's Swinging Party was a cover of a Replacements song.
Twenty years ago I'll bet people were shocked that the Crash Test Dummies didn't write Androgenous.

I don't see a lot of shows overall but I thought no my highs are R.E.M. 5 times, Wilco 5 times,

I have not gone, but a friend went with a trade relegation from Illinois and met Fidel. Fidel gave him a box of cigars. This was about 15 - 16 years ago.

Heard Jason and the Scorchers version of Absolutely Sweet Marie long before I heard Dylan's Version.
Stevie Ray Vaughn's Voodoo Chile before Hendrix.
-
Three Dog Night's version of "Mama Told Me Not to Come" written by Randy Newman.
And Fleetwood Mac's Green Manaleshi
Also Santana doing Black Magic Woman

congrats on boarding the Melvins bus. you're in for a quite a ride.
Just what I need a band with 30 albums to buy.
-
I also had never heard the Smiths till about three years ago. Not a song. Now I've heard all their albums.
I just heard theMelvins for the first time last night.

Reading "Anatomy of a Song" it's pretty much a distilled and edited compilation of the WSJ columns.

Just watched a series called 3% on Netflix. It was pretty good, but if you can't tolerate subtitles don't bother. It's from Brazil and in Portuguese.
Basic story is that when you turn 20 in the post modern world you go through a process that o determine if you deserve/earn the right to a better life. Only 3% of those who start the process make it to the better life.
Anybody watching the Netflix series The Crown? My wife "made" me start watching it over break last week and I think we finished it last night. I'm assuming there are more shows in the works...?
Saw it and generally liked it. Definitely leaves room for more seasons as this season covered from Elizabeth's marriage to the mid-Late 50's.

You should totally go see Torche and Red Fang this Sunday!
I'm seeing Red Fang in two weeks. Saw them open for Mastodon a few years ago and liked RF much more than Mastodon.

I've kind of grown weary of live shows and have only seen one this year, so the best, worst and most average show for me was Lydia Loveless at the Accord (formerly the High Dive in Champaign, U.K.)

I really like all of the first six, but if I were to just pull one or two out I would start in the middle with Masters and Vol 4. All of them are good, but these are the ones I go to.

so i paid a LOT of money for the Sabbath VIP tickets, even at the lowest tier. of course, getting excellent seats was a great aspect of it (something like 9th row center), but we also got to see the soundcheck along with about 50 - 75 other people. the first bit was the drummer doing a drum solo (hard pass), it ended w/ Ozzy coming out and singing "Iron Man," but the middle was an instrumental version of "Symptom" which pretty much made it proper value. Iommi is by far the best riff master ever, and it was pure joy watching him blaze through that.
That's awesome. My wife is not a huge music fan, so I don't think I could get away with a purchase like that. Hamilton tickets yes, Black Sabbath VIP, no. Regardless Im sure its a memory that will last forever.

how psyched were you when you first heard "Symptom Of The Universe"?
I was pleasantly surprised on how good all of these albums are. Sure I missed out on them for 40+ years, but it's now something new for me and the 70's are alive again...somewhat.

T Rex both Electric Warrior and Slider
I had also never heard the first six Sabbath albums till two years ago. Mostly what I knew was Sold our Soul...

Not in this forum, but it was used fairly regularly out in the rest of the world.

Ok I've thought about it and realized that there was not a lot that excited me this year, so in no particular order.,,
Lucinda Williams - Ghosts of Highway 20
DBT - American Band
Sturgill Simpson - A Sailors Guide to Earth
Dinosaur Jr - Give a Glimpse of What You're Not
Margo Price - Midwest Farmers Daughter
Brandy Clark - Big Day in a Small Town
Lydia Loveless - Real
Can't think of much else I've listened to more than two or three times.
Bruce Live - all three Meadowlands shows. Do these count?
Most of what I bought this year was older or re-issued. So not a lot of new. Heck I just purchased and listened to slider for the first time today.

Just saw this. She was only 60, that's still young in my book.

Like we should have been praying for Obama the last 8 years, we should all pray for Trump the next 4.
Do we pray for his wife to be a widow and his children to become orphans? I heard that one a lot during the last eight years.

Pence...unprecedented power? Dare I mention that just Eight years ago dirty Dick was VP and seemed to pretty much run everything.

Thanks, I have prime so I'll look for it.

Yes PBS. I stumbled on it tonight. Now I have to find the first episode.
