  1. David Eckstein ranked 82nd in baseball in pitches per plate appearance this year (6th on his own team). He's not a bad player, but there's a lot of myth building going on about him right now. Anyway, he had a very good series, probably did deserve the Series MVP that he got, but I'm still confused about all the credit the media is giving him for somehow causing fielding miscues. I think that's just luck.
  2. Now accepting new ideas for an avatar...
  3. You were so cute, thinking your team couldn't lose.
  4. Mixed in with my complaints about the Tigers' poor play, I was giving the Cards their due. A couple of my friends got frustrated with me for not being as certain of Tigers victory at the beginning of the season. Anyway, I'd be lying if I said that I'm not horribly disappointed, but at the same time, I can't be upset about the way this season turned out. Often frustrating, but even with their huge second half slump, and their disastrous World Series, they still performed well beyond what would have made me happy with this season. I was hoping for 86 or so wins, third place. It sucks badly
  5. I went from loving to hating Brandon Inge in record time just now.
  6. Dear Joe Buck, Getting on base due to a throwing error does not count as "getting it done again". That is all.
  7. My favorite sports writer, King Kaufman, is calling for the season to start earlier. And I agree with him. Look what happens when you get two teams in the World Series that both play in cities with real winter weather. Games are delayed, players freeze, and when the games aren't postponed, they're played in bad conditions. Now, I'm not blaming the weather for the Tigers problems -- both teams are playing in the same weather after all -- but there's no doubt that it's effecting the quality of the games being played. And of course there would be weather issues in mid-March if they were pla
  8. Yeah, but that was dumb for everyone to think the Tigers were a sure thing. The favorite, sure, but the Cards were obviously a better team than their 83 wins indicated (lots of injuries, plus some unexpected underperformances), and it's not like the Tigers dominated the whole year like they did early on. Yes, the Tigers looked better in the first two rounds of the playoffs, but not enough for their victory in the World Series to be the foregone conclusion that so many in the media made it out to be. I certainly thought the Tigers would win, but no one should be that surprised that the Cardi
  9. Also, Trammell is a terrible manager.
  10. Bochy has done a very good job, but I think that once he's made it clear that he is interested in managing somewhere else, they may as well let him go. If he comes back, he will have lost his team.
  11. Well, the Tigers hitting wasn't that bad last night (although yes, Carpenter and Reyes totally shut them down, and Weaver was good too). It just pains me to see them making a bunch of stupid fielding errors in the World Series. That's what blew it last night at least. And when Zumaya made that stupid error in the previous game, that's what solidified the loss -- before that it was still a winnable game.
  12. I'm not sure about you, but my enjoyment and understanding of the game is greatly increased now that I know that Sean Casey listens to Dave Matthews Band.
  13. I said right in the post that Jeter is a legitimate MVP candidate this year. And no one here said (I don't think) that he isn't an excellent player. Just not as great as he's usually credited for. However...well, I just don't understand people's resistence to stats. Stats are a record of what happened, of what people did (or did not do) to help their teams win games. And MVP candidate or not, he is a terrible choice for the Hank Aaron award, which was the point of that post.
  14. Authorities: 'Deputy Shaq' participated in botched Virginia raid By TRAVIS REED, Associated Press Writer October 25, 2006 ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Shaquille O'Neal was present during a botched child pornography raid last month while working in Virginia as a reserve sheriff's deputy. The Miami Heat center, who pursues his interest in law enforcement during the offseason, denied Tuesday taking part in serving the search warrant at the wrong house Sept. 23. However, Bedford County Sheriff's Lt. Michael Harmony confirmed to The Associated Press that O'Neal was there. O'Neal, in Orlando to
  15. Sheff is whining about the Yankees picking up his option and says that he will not play first base for them next year. This guy really has a lot of issues with the contract the he agreed to.
  16. A big distraction for who? Maybe for the fans, and it certainly is for the media, but the team still had the most wins in baseball this year (despite two major injuries), so I don't think they're getting distracted.
  17. I don't think NY pressure has anything to do with A-Rod not winning a World Series. He's played great there. I think they haven't won with him because they don't have any pitching. Sheff is definately a big trouble maker. Remember a couple years ago where he said that, if he were traded, he would refuse to report to his new team? What a dick. No one forced him to sign a contract without a no trade clause -- he chose to, because it got him some extra money.
  18. Posada is getting awfully old himself. Yes, A-Rod should bring in a #1 starter. Sheff could easily bring in a #1 starter who is in a contract year I think. Or he could if he wasn't in a contract year himself anyway. Seriously though, I have no idea why anyone wouldn't want Alex Rodriguez on their team. Anyway, he's not going to be traded anyway. But I guess it's something to talk about when there's no fucking World Series games being played. Arg.
  19. Yeah, but they could get a solid #2 starter for any one of those other guys that you listed. Why dump their best player if they can get what they need by giving up less?
  20. I hate the Yankees so...I'll agree. Trade him!
