Well, in fairness, although the military has always been disproportionately poor and uneducated, I think it may be more dramatically so now than in the past when your father and grandfather served.

Orlando will be much improved, no doubt. And they'll definately be a strong playoff team. But a real contender? No way. That being said, look out for Darko.

One game is meaningless. But I don't think the Heat will repeat regardless. They may still be the best team in the East, but it's a more competitive conference than it was last year, and they were already a pretty old team last season. Last year it was them and the Pistons (and sort of the Nets). This year, it's the Heat, the Bulls, the Cavs, the Pistons, and maybe still the Nets (although that's a big maybe). I don't think there's a clear cut favorite in the East. The Heat do probably get a slight edge by virtue of winning it last year though. I do think, though, that if Duncan and G

Are you ready for some football?

MSU is always going to struggle to recruit because they will always be competing directly with Michigan and Notre Dame for players. However, they still should be able to get better players than Illinois or Indiana. Indiana also competes pretty directly with Notre Dame, and has even less of a winning history than the Spartans do, and Illinois...well, I don't know why anyone would want to play football at Illinois. I'd love to be able to offer up an explanation for MSU's struggles, but I can't. As several others have noted here, they seem to always be either really, really good, or complet -

MSU's football program is a joke. And, as badly as John L. did there, he's not the crux of the problem -- he really didn't do any worse than Bobby Williams did. Anyway, I'm heading to A2 this Saturday to see Michigan take on the mighty Cardinals of Ball State. Yeah, shitty game, but it'll be my first game at the Big House since graduating (and my first Michigan football game at all since then other than the unfortunate whooping at the hands of the Irish in South Bend two years ago). Even if it is a lame game, I'm pumped. And Lloyd is saying there's even a chance that Manningham will play -
He's not a dick for saying it, he's just sort of dumb for botching the line that badly. I mean, misspeaks happen, but the omission of one word sure did completely change the meaning of that sentence, and he and his party (and potentially the whole country depending on how this effects the election) are now paying a high price for it.

Indeed. My favorite part is the conclusion: Why aren't more people hammering the administration for cutting and running in Afghanistan?

That's fair. I was thinking only in terms of musical output, but Black Flag certainly made a huge impact on the industry through all of the things that you mentioned on top of their music. Minor Threat should probably get a good share of the credit too, but you're absolutely right that, in terms of how the music industry works (or at least how certain segments of the industry work), Black Flag had a more substantial impact than the Stooges (although I do think the Stooges are more important on a strictly musical level). -
Perhaps. But what about next Tuesday?

It's remarkable how the 24-hour news cycle has not resulted in any more news (and actually, probably less). They spend so much time reporting what every candidate and surrogate is saying, and zero time telling the audience whether or not what those people are saying is actually true or not. It's horrible.
-
Also the mindless drones though. A lot of Fox News's audience watches it because they are right wingers and they like to get their news from other right wingers. That part of the audience isn't going to be influenced because they already agree with it. There is another segment of the audience, though, who are mindless and simply think that the loudest voice is the one that is telling the truth. Those are the ones being influenced.

Yeah, that might have been one of the poorest word choices in history.

I don't like killing and destruction or anything, but this war has gone too far.

Black Flag? Deserving, yes, but the Rock Hall is so far behind on punk rock that the Stooges aren't even in yet. The Stooges. Priorities, people. -

I'll take Iggy, Ron, Scott and Dave. And feel free to throw in Steve, too. Thanks. -

STOOGES -
Matt Millen is bad at his job.

A noticeably small number of "hits" on that setlist. Cool.

Wow. When I saw him in Ann Arbor last year, someone requested "Screen Door" and he said "I'll play 'Screen Door'...before I die" or something like that. Wow.

I swear, any year but this one and I'd be excited as all hell for the Cards. Oh well... Better losing to the Cardinals than just about anybody else.
-
Actually, I think they've gone a bit too far with it (most of them are the same -- just listing the cliches used in the articles to describe him). It was funny at first, but I wish they'd give it a rest now. However, this was pure brilliance...

bobbob has been reading FireJoeMorgan. Very nice. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I don't think the reason people don't tune in to watch Pudge anymore has anything to do with steroids. I think it has to do with the fact that he just hasn't been a very good hitter in the last few years. It's of course entirely possible that this decline is due to not being juiced anymore, but I think that people would have lost interest with the decline in numbers even if his steroid use had remained a secret.

If it went 5 games, the players would probably be murdering each other on the field. -
So this weekend I saw We Jam Econo, the Minutemen documentary. I've been a fan for a while, but the film really renewed my enthusiasm for them. All three had/have such unique musical personalities. No one else like them before or sense. Anyway, any fans here?
