Yep. And that's why they lost. Pitching was awful this year. Although as stacked as that line up is, I'm fairly certain that they can get a top-of-the-rotation guy without giving up the best player on their team.

Man, I remember in high school a friend and I used to ditch class to go see afternoon games at the old ballpark. We'd buy the tickets that were $8 including pizza and pop, and then we'd just sit wherever. An inning in our real seats, a couple innings behind the dugout, maybe hang out with the guy with the radar gun for a little bit. That was great. I wonder if kids won't be able to do that now... Depending on the salary deal the Yanks are willing to make, there are probably about 29 teams who would be willing to do this.

What does it mean to be a team player in baseball? Unlike basketball or hockey, they don't pass the ball around or anything. A team player and an asshole do the exact same things on the baseball field as one another. When at the plate, try to get on base. When in the field, try to make the play. How does one be a team player? Yeah, some guys might be a pain in the ass in the clubhouse, but none of us really have any idea what goes on in there, and there are plenty of guys who have reputations as clubhouse cancers who have won big time. I understand that. I just still don't understand why A-Rod gets so much of the blame. He's just one guy on the roster. No one there has one since 2000. There are several other guys who have never won there (Giambi, Matsui, et al). People whine about how much A-Rod makes, but a good chunk of that is paid by the Rangers, and, well, I'm not sure why the fans care what Steinbrenner is paying him anyway. Regardless, if the Yankees do let him go, it will be a mistake that I will be happy to see them make.

I can't imagine why they would trade A-Rod. I can't picture a deal that would be worth it for them. Congrats in advance to whatever team pulls it off though.

Yeah, it'll be annoying to not be able to get tickets, but every team has more fans when they're winning than when they're losing. And the bandwagon fans are necessary, because without them, ownership/management wouldn't have as much incentive to put a winning team together. If people always supported the team, even when they suck, they make their money anyway.

As an alumni of the University of Michigan, I must go on record to say that OSU matters exponentially more than MSU. It's not close, it's never been close, it never will be close. I have no idea where anyone would get the impression that MSU matters more, except maybe from a Spartan.

Yeah, you're probably right. But if Florida hadn't lost today, they still had quite a few tough games to make it through the season undefeated. Michigan just has to get through Iowa next week (who were horrible today against Indiana, and then it's a cakewalk until OSU) and OSU has nothing until Michigan. West Virginia plays in a shit conference, and will have no excuses for losing a game in the regular season. Oh, and I guess there's still USC, but there are still a couple games left that they can lose. If they do go undefeated though, I think they will also likely lose to whoever emerge

Eh, that Florida loss doesn't matter anyway, because the national championship should, by all rights, come down to Michigan vs. Ohio State. The winner of that game will slaughter West Virginia in the National Championship game. I sure hope its Michigan.

That announcer who blamed it all on FIU talking trash is an idiot. Every football game will have a substantial amount of trash talking. It's part of the culture of the game. I highly, highly doubt that Florida International, which has never won a 1-A game, was talking worse smack than any other team that goes into the Orange Bowl. Miami has shown in the past that the program does not stress discipline or sportsmanship. I'm certain that FIU is not without blame, but I can't imagine a scenerio in which Miami isn't at least equally, if not more responsible.

The guy swinging his helmet, and the guy who was stomping guys with his cleats should be done for the year. That brawl was brutal. I can't believe something like that could happen in a game between such unequal teams. What's the point? It sure was entertaining though.

I saw that story about Steve Lyons earlier. I don't think his comments were necessarily insensitive or racist--just kind of dumb. I guess that's the way it goes. I would much rather have him on board for the WS than any of the guys who will end up doing it though. Oh well. I guess you could argue that Minaya didn't build great depth with the pitching, but he actually did a fine job with building a rotation if not for the injuries. That sort of thing is tough to plan for (although, granted, the two big injuries are to older vets, so not completely impossible to anticipate). Oliver Pe

I was watching the Michigan-PSU game with some Michigan friends and one guy who went to FIU. He was pretty fired up for that brawl. Highlight of the FIU season?

Iowa is currently down by 3 points to Indiana with about 9:50 to go in the game. They'll probably still win, but I'm starting to reevaluate my concern about playing them this year. Maybe they aren't as good as I thought. I mean, they should be slaughtering Indiana, shouldn't they?

Someone tell Marco Scutaro to quit being a pussy and take that beanie off. If all the Latino players from the tropics can deal with the cold, then he should be able to, too. Also, I didn't realize that MLB allowed them to wear winter hats over their caps. I guess it isn't an issue very often.

Actually, the team that lead the Majors in Team Chemistry Indices this year was the Cardinals. Anyway, I just signed on here to marvel at how the Tigers seem to own Frank Thomas in this series. Good timing for that.

I've certainly been annoyed by some Mets fans in my time, but they aren't nearly as bad as Yankees fans in my experience. Certainly far less cocky, and most of all, most Mets fans at least seem to be from New York. Not that Yankees fans who are actually from New York aren't plenty annoying, but I'm much more annoyed by people who aren't from New York who are Yankees fans, of which there are many. Doesn't seem to be the case with the Mets.
