A Tigers/Padres series would be fun because it would be the same matchup as '84. Otherwise, I think the Padres are the least exciting playoff team in the NL, IMO. When the "A-Rod" chants turned into "A-Hole", that sure was fun. That sure was fun tonight. I don't think I've had that much fun at a sporting event before. I'm all worn out from waving my Tigers Towel around.

I know some fans who think it's wrapped up, but I bet the team knows better. I'm sure they learned their lesson when they got complacent about the division lead.

No loop. John Cale is a fucking bad ass.

I fucking love Buck O'Neil.

Is that when the war is going to end?

Squeeze is not as terrible as it's legend states it is, but it really isn't all that much better. It's been years since I've heard it (I have a dubbed cassette copy somewhere), but from what I remember, there was only one song on there that was any better than bad. Most of it is not offensively bad, but it really doesn't have a thing to offer. I heard a couple songs that Doug Yule recorded years later (in the late '90s I think), and they were quite good. Is anyone familiar with American Flyer?

It's a different version of "Ocean" also.

Oh, also, how about them Cards? I didn't know that that Jeff Weaver still existed.

Indeed! I was driving back to Michigan tonight regardless, but the game ended just a few minutes before I left work, so I at least knew I wasn't coming into town for nothing. Very exciting. I can't wait. And yeah, the Yanks are probably still favored, but today's game is a huge swing. I don't think anyone expected the Tigers to win either of the first two at Yankee Stadium. I wonder if the result would have been the same without the rain postponement. Might have taken some pressure off Verlander to pitch in the afternoon.

This is fair, except that it only really applies to the particular kid that came out with it. But there are some reports that he's been doing similar things with pages for 10 years. I'd imagine that they weren't all so willing, and the fact that there were several and he repeated the behavior over the years sure seems to indicate that he was the aggressor in whatever sort of relationships occurred.

Even if that's true...does it matter? Does that change the implications of Foley's behavior one single bit?

If you're a big fan, the boxed set is totally worth it. The 4 original albums are on there, but there is just soooooooooooo much more. The first disc is demos from the pre-Moe Tucker days of the band (although Angus MacLise apparently did not show up, as there are no drums on it at all--just Lou, John and Sterl). One otherwise lost song ("Prominent Men", which is totally Lou trying to be Dylan), one song that appeared years later on a Nico album ("Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams") and some early versions of some classics from the first album, some of them in several takes. "Venus in Furs"

Oh, and by the way, I'm not saying that the kid shouldn't have rebuked the advances if he didn't want them, I'm just saying that, IMO, the other issues involved make the willingness of the kid completely irrelevent. Foley was in a position of power, and he was using it to go after high school students. Regardless, he's resigned and hopefully will soon be getting both the punishment he deserves and the help that he needs. I'm much more concerned about the cover up at this point than I am with the Foley's bad behavior.

How about the power balance between a Congressman and an unpaid student volunteer errand-boy?
-
Interesting as a document for hardcore fans, but it's really rather hard to listen to, don't you think? You really can't hear a thing other than the guitar and a ton of feedback.
-
If the teen in both situations is equally accepting of the advances, are they then completely morally equivilent situations? Doesn't the power balance between an adult and a teenager count for something?
-
Actually, I don't think it even saw official release until last year. It was very widely circulated as a bootleg, but the recent CD release was it's first official one as far as I know. Should be in print.

Yeah, I'll post a YSI when I get home from work before I hit the road and head to Detroit. Edit: On second thought, I'll wait until I get to my mom's tonight. So assuming I don't forget my mp3 player, I'll do it tonight.

So does that mean you don't want to hear Cale's take on "All Tomorrow's Parties"? Seriously, the intensity of the piano work on that song, the lyrics, the drums...I can see not liking Nico's vocals I guess, but man, that song is just so good.

I can't even listen on the radio here at work even if I had one here. :-/ But hey, at least there's Yahoo GameChannel. Monroe just bunted out to the pitcher with 2 outs and a runner on third. Why was he bunting? Leyland is doing all sorts of crazy shit in this series, and none of it is working. What is the point of all of these high risk, low percentage plays? I think he might be a little intimidated by the Yankees. Arrrrrrrggghghhh

So far, so good. Up 1-0 after 3. If they win today (or Friday) it means I'll be at the game Saturday! Go Tigers!

You really should listen to "All Tomorrow's Parties" again. It's a brilliant song. And if you really can't get past her voice, I can hook you up with a live version from 1993 with John Cale on vocals that will knock your socks off. For real.
