I've been looking for a job since July. And trust me, I've been looking really hard. There just aren't a lot jobs out there compared to the number of people out there competing for them.
-
It's just that it's really easy to say that you'd be okay with losing your job, but it's hard to believe that you'll really be that okay with it if it actually happens. And assuming that you're in a position where you can survive for a while when you're out of work, well, it still misses the point that a lot of people won't be.
-
You're fine with it, but what are the prospects of it actually happening? There are tens of thousands of people who would be guaranteed to lose their jobs, healthcare, pensions, etc if these companies go under.

I think morally neutral jobs are okay.

No one up north calls Miami UM. It's always Da U or Miami (Florida), as there's also a Miami (Ohio) that we have to talk about up here.

When I was 12 years old, I read this tripe twice:

Stop it, you're making me cry.

Or maybe its a sign of things to come. But it's probably just our win for the weekend.

I agree with that.

Janet Napolitano to be Sec. of Homeland Security.

Yeah, I think the Clemens revelations did, or at least should have, opened up some eyes about the ways that steroids may have helped pitchers too. Mussina was probably smart to quit now, in terms of Hall of Fame chances. Writers look at wins waaaaay too much, and he managed to eke out his first 20 win season this year. It would have been dumb to leave him out for lack of a 20 win season, and its just as dumb to consider him more qualified now than if he'd ended the year with 19, but the reality is that it will probably make a difference to a lot of the guys who get the vote, and doing it i

I find that I tend to be a lot stingier with the Hall of Fame nods than most people.

Not if it were up to me. He's similar to some borderline guys who snuck in (Juan Marichal, Jim Bunning) but not as good as several guys who for some reason are still on the outside looking in (can they PLEASE put Bert Blyleven in the Hall already?). I'd say he's just barely not worthy but probably has a semi-decent chance of getting in.

Minnesota Public Radio has posted to their website some of the challenged ballots in the recount: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/features/...lenged_ballots/

Yeah, I can almost buy Jules's original argument that 2nd base isn't too much harder than 1st base (but not quite). The notion that first base is actually more difficult seems pretty absurd to me though.
-
I disagree.
-
Yes, and that is way second base is an easier position than shortstop.
-
Okay, but a good secondbaseman can reduce the number of errors by the other fielders too. This is not unique to the first base position. It's not like no one is ever throwing to the second baseman, and a lot of the throws that are coming to the second baseman are a whole lot more difficult to handle than the ones being thrown to 1B. In actually hot stove news (sort of), Mike Mussina retired.
-
How does a gold glove first baseman make the third baseman better? A good first baseman will dig more bad throws out of the dirt than a bad first baseman will, but the third baseman is just as good either way. Unless you think that Albert Pujols can will Troy Glaus into making a quicker move towards a ground ball or something.
-
Sure, I'd rather have Kent at first instead of Vaughn too. Just because 1B is an easier position doesn't mean everyone can do it equally well.
-
What if the gold glover at second base is also an awesome hitter?
