  1. Supposedly the deal would be Wilson for Jeff Larish or Matt Joyce. I don't care about Larish, but I really like Joyce and think he could have a really good future so I'm not sure if I like the idea of them giving him up for a middling shortstop, but the hole at short is harder to fill than the one in left field, so we'll see.
  2. Fucking nutcases. No amount of evidence will convince them.
  3. Greg Maddux to announce his retirement on Monday.
  4. Yeah, I'm not so naive as to think that the U.S. never tortured anyone before the Bush years, but there's a big difference between a couple of rogue interrogators taking things too far, and it being the official policy of the United States, as authorized by the highest government officials. The fact that whether or not we should torture is a matter of public debate is just insane to me -- until the last few years it was generally accepted that it was wrong and not worth it. The existence of the torture debate is proof of a pretty substantial and troublesome change.
  5. I thought the season was over a couple weeks ago.
  6. After it became clear he wasn't coming to Michigan, I had my fingers crossed that he had decided to stay close to home and go to PSU. I still don't understand the OSU decision, but have accepted it.
  7. Give us Ryan Mallet back, jerkholes.
  8. I believe that perhaps it's wise to re-evaluate the ways in which we support Israel, as I think it's quite possible to do so without having permanent military bases in other people's backyards, starting unprovoked wars, holding Israel and ourselves to different standards than we hold the rest of the world to, and threatening to attack any nation that looks at us funny. Actions are tied to beliefs, but there are a lot of nations who believe things different than what al Qaeda, the Taliban, whoever else do, and yet they aren't the target of attacks. To give you credit though, Tweedling, when
  9. Yes, exactly. So it's not that they hate us regardless of what we do, it's directly tied to our actions. How about that. You should probably read that article I linked to on the last page too. It was written by someone who knows way more about the subject than either you or I do.
  10. Yeah, but it's only 2 years, so they at least learned that much. Apparently the Tigers/Pirates deal is actually not close to done.
  11. Which things that we stand for do you think that they hate?
  12. Really? You don't think that taking actions that turn large portions of the world against us makes us more vulnerable to terrorist attacks?
  13. First off, we're not just talking about people from other countries -- until the courts forced them to act, there were several American citizens being held as enemy combatants anyway. Also, again, there is no real reason to think any terrorist attacks are being thwarted through torture. All real evidence suggests that torture gives unreliable information, especially when compared to more proven techniques that don't diminish our own values, and our place in the world. And maintaining respect in the world is very important in preventing terrorist attacks. Who do you think it is that is thr
  14. bleedorange, you should read this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8112802242.html
  15. I'm glad you think I'm cute, but no, I do not see the rationale for using inhumane techniques that produce unreliable information and help terrorists recruit. It achieves exactly nothing other than to denigrate our standing in the world, dismantle our own constitution, and to aid the enemy.
  16. How did the bank execs get to Washington for their hearings? I don't think they rode Amtrak.
  17. Jack Wilson to the Tigers. Not yet clear who the Pirates are getting in return. Khalil Greene to St. Louis for somebody.
