I think you're right, though resignation or impeachment must be coming soon. Also, if he tried to appoint someone right now, who in their right mind would accept that appointment? It would be immediately tainted. I would imagine that any of the serious candidates for it are probably waiting for Quinn to take over at this point.

Three team deal in the works to send Peavy to the Cubs, and some Phillies prospects to San Diego, with Mark DeRosa and possibly Jason Marquis headed to Philadelphia. Giambi likely to sign with Oakland. The Rangers are shopping Michael Young, though will probably have trouble finding a team willing to take his big contract (5 years, $80 million left on it).

Looks like the Tigers are about to sign Adam Everett and are making a move for Kerry Wood. I'm not really high on either of these guys, but they're decent short term fill-ins I guess.
