Whoops, I totally misread that. I thought you said "my manager", not "any manager". My bad. Seriously though, managers have a much smaller impact on the game than most people give them credit for. The most important thing they do is to manage the pitching staff, but other than the occassional gigantic boner, they really make very little difference. I really don't think a good manager accounts for more than maybe 1 or 2 more wins than a bad manager.

To be fair, there isn't really anything good to say about Ozzie other than that he can be entertaining at times.

There was a rumor that Youk will be put in right field when the series goes to Denver, but it seems unlikely to me, as he's never played an inning there in his life. Makes the most sense from an offensive standpoint though.

I don't think anyone here said that money was everything.
-
Yes. They were a very good team. I'm not even sure what your point is here. ^ He gets it.

Do you really think that having more money is not an advantage? Seriously? I'm not even saying there's anything wrong with that. If my team had the money to spend, then I sure as hell would want them to spend it. I don't think it diminishes their pennant any, or their likely upcoming World Series win, to acknowledge that having some extra money gives them an edge over teams with less to spend. They still have to know how to use that money. But as it stands, for big name free agents, there are only a handful of teams who are in the running to sign them, and if the Red Sox make a mistake a

Here's the explanation: Arizona played better than the Yankees did over the course of a short series. They had two great pitchers who dominated for a couple of games each. The end.
-
Is this willfull ignorance? Obviously the claim is that more money allows you to sign better players, not that players start playing better if you give them more money. Come on now. No one is saying that more money guarantees anything, just that it gives a huge advantage. And that advantage can be seen in larger sample sizes than one series. Of course a lesser team can win a short series, but over time the team with the greater resources will be more likely to win more. This is, of course, contingent on the people spending the money having some idea what they're doing, but the more mone

And bunting is pretty important when you're terrible at hitting. I'm just saying.

Of course salary is significant, but it's not the be all and end all of success in baseball. Having a ton of money to spend is a huge advantage, but a smaller market team can be competitive if it's smart about how it uses its money. Basically, having a ton of money will make it a whole lot easier to get to the playoffs. Money is why the Yankees are in the playoffs every year, and it's why the Red Sox are in the playoffs almost every year. But once the playoffs begin, anything can happen. The worst team in the league will beat the best team in the league in a 7 game series from time to

I know that this is the World Series thread, but I'm going to go ahead and treat it as a general baseball thread. So...hooray! This is fun. A-Rod won a meaningless award that will piss off some A-Rod haters.

As an escapee from Michigan, I can assure you that some segments of the economy are beyond terrible. -
Yeah, there will never be a candidate that I agree with completely, but I disagree with almost every aspect of Ron Paul's ideas for domestic policy. Can't really overlook that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think people are "stupid" to fear terrorism. But I do feel as though the fear of terrorism far outweighs the actual threat, and a lot of people here are so frightened of a threat that will likely never touch them that they are completely unable to think rationally about certain issues. To a significant segment of the United States populace, if a politician says that something will make us safer, then they will be on board regardless of the negative consequences, or whether or not that particular measure will actually even make us safer. Sure, there is always -
He's the most sane one running for either party when it comes to foreign policy. He's also one of the crazier ones when it comes to domestic policy. I respect him, and I'm glad he's speaking the truth about Iraq, but I would never vote for him.

The dude is Irish. I think he's familiar with how terrorism affects a nation. I'm not worried about being inconvenienced in order to guard against terrorism. But I am very concerned with being forced to give up civil liberties in the name of fighting terrorism. Claiming that it's about convenience is a red herring. -
I don't blame the players for taking the money either, but that won't stop me from hating anyone who signs with the Yankees. Because hating the Yankees is too much fun to give up.
