I'm ecstatic. Prospects are great, but the point is to win a championship, and with a move like this the Tigers are in position to win next season. I think both Miller and Maybin will be as good as hyped, but by then who else will by on the team? By the time those guys are coming into their own, Maggs, Pudge, Guillen, Sheff etc. will be either gone or on their last legs. But those guys are still valuable now, and with Cabrera beefing up the order I have to believe that they're truly among the favorites in the American League now. If Maybin and Miller do turn out great, then well, I guess

Chavez loses bid to become president-for-life

Not all of the people who have been imprisoned have been "hanging around al Qaeda" or even anything remotely similar to consorting with them. Let's not forget about the sad case of Maher Ara. He wasn't sent to Gitmo, but he's a good illustration of the dangers of assuming that someone is guilty or affiliated with someone who is guilty, just because we've arrested them. Anyway, this Golyadkin guy is pretty clearly either a troll or Rudy Guiliani, so I don't know why I'm bothering. -

Plus it's illegal for us to have a prison there in the first place. The treaty giving the United States control of Guantamano did so for the purpose of having coaling and naval stations there. It says nothing about having a military prison there. -

How so? -
If the Tigers got Miggy Cabrera, I would shit my pants.

We're also holding back their economy by holding on to Guantanamo, which, if not for our continued control of it, would probably be their most active port. Personally I think America is imploding because big business has its hand in everything the government does, not vice versa. -
The Rays have traded Elijah Dukes to the Nationals for a player to be named. I think the Nats could be a pretty solid contender in 2-3 years.

I know it's supposedly good for the Big Ten, yadda yadda, but I'm still not rooting for the Buckeyes. Fuck them.

Brian Schneider does not suck. He's not great, but he's definately an above average defensive catcher. And yeah, Milledge's name has been around forever, but that's just because he was a hot prospect back in high school. He still has plenty of time to pan out. Kenny Rogers...meh. I mean, he's obviously not very good anymore. He's over the hill, and at this point in his career he's going to be hurt a lot. But he's not awful, and I guess it can't hurt to have him around. If he's the #5 starter this year, I'm totally okay with that. More likely, though, is that he'll be injured much of

The media fucked us out of Les Miles. I've got my fingers crossed for Brian Kelly, who is probably a better coach anyway.
-
Pretty amazing that he lived to be so old.
-
Honestly, that strikes me as a very good deal. Both teams should improve.
-
I'm pulling for Brian Kelly now, but I'd be pretty happy with Miles. I don't want Ferentz at all.
-
And now the word is that Ferentz is out. The rumors are flying to fast to keep up with. Anyway, this is pretty interesting: http://www.spartantailgate.com/forums/msu-...es-ferentz.html

It's really just a rumor at this point, but I'm hearing it from a whole lot of places -- some fan rumor sites, several friends on campus, etc. It's really not as certain as I made it sound, but at this point he's probably jumped Miles as the most likely candidate.
-
Looks like Ferentz is probably the guy at Michigan.

For fantasy I was getting most of my info from the Talented Mr. Roto, but site no longer exists, so next year I'm fucked. It wasn't my only source, but this season I rode it to a win in my roto league, and a regular season championship in my head to head league (before tanking in the playoffs, of course). Otherwise, most of my info comes from SI.com, Yahoo Sports, and baseball-reference.com.

Why do the Cubs want Matsui? They already picked up Infante who is significantly younger, cheaper, and likely to give numbers that are at least as good. Plus way more potential to get better.
-
Hmm, weird. Anyway, doesn't seem likely to me, but not exactly impossible either.

I didn't say it was my theory. And I haven't seen South Park in like 3 or 4 years.
-
I've heard it speculated that these 9/11 conspiracy theories may in fact be fueled by the adminstration, as the more time people spend on false conspiracy theories, the less time they are spending paying attention to the real crimes that are being committed, for which there is much more evidence.

So everything is fine there now? Great, let's bring the troops home.
