It probably won't be biased, but putting him in charge of the investigation while still affiliated with the team is just asking for speculation and accusations of bias. Dumb move by MLB.

Shallow humor is right up my alley, but this didn't do a thing for me.

A few years ago I logged in a couple minutes too late for the Ann Arbor pre-sale and half my family died.

putting together the timeline of the world's best band

You young whippersnappers don't know what good music is! Everyone knows that rock music peaked in 1968, and anything that doesn't sound like the Beatles or Pink Floyd is garbage. -
Well yeah, the market dictates what a guy is worth, I guess. What I should have said is that they're expecting bigger numbers than he's really going to put up, IMO. If he really produces the way they think he is, then yeah, that's what the market dictates right now. But I don't think he's really going to perform at that level, and they could have spent a lot less money on a guy who will put up similar numbers to what his actual output will be.

Well, 34 was his career high for homers in Japan (granted they only play 144 games, but they also have smaller ballparks), and he did that at the age of 27. I guess it's possible that he could hit that many 4 years from now, but I'd be pretty shocked.

I hope you're still pumped when they're paying him $15 mil when he's 34 and injured.

Not sure how I missed this. Happy belated, Scott.

Kingston, N.Y., is a den of thieves

In the last 3 weeks I've had my car totalled while parked by a hit & run drunko, got mugged, and to top it all off, this morning my steps were really icy, but I couldn't put any salt down because someone has apparently stolen my bag of salt. Kingston doesn't sound so bad to me. -
They overpaid.

Oh yeah, I remember now. -
King Kaufman raised a great question in his column today. Will this report also implicate managers, coaches, executives, etc. who were complicit (or even directly involved) in all of this, or is this just a report that is intended to give owners leverage over the players by basically pushing the whole scandal onto them?

I think the new Rays logos are kind of boring. Here are the new unis.
-
The guy who does the SI UniWatch also has a blog that is updated pretty much daily, so that should keep you busy for a while. And if you want to see all of the Sox uniforms throughout the years, you can check out this site: http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dre...es/database.htm

What were you doing at a Republican dinner? -
Do you ever read UniWatch?

Gagne to Milwaukee.

We should hire John Cooper. He always knew how to ensure a Michigan victory.
-
They had a pretty disappointing season this year considering the two previous ones. I'm sure he's a fine coach, but I think Michigan should be able to do better.
-
Not sure why they were interested in that guy anyway.

I love the sandwiches at Santullo's so much that I don't think I've ever even tried their pizza. Lou Malnati's is good and there are a couple city locations (there's one on N. Wells in River North, which is probably the closest one to downtown). When I've got out-of-towners visiting, I usually take them to Giordano's. I agree that Uno/Due is overrated. My favorite pizza place in Chicago is actually Pizza Metro, but that's thin-crust, so if you're looking for stuffed pizza then don't bother.

He's still a fine defensive catcher, definately. The cap was a result of the lockout.

Yeah, the Freakonomics guy, who I think was the first to propose this link, has said that he does not think it should make a difference in the abortion debate, but produced the data instead so that people would stop attributing the drop in crime inaccurately to other things, as an accurate understanding of what does and does not prevent crime is necessary to forming sound crime prevention policies.
