  1. Not so fast...it's 8-4 already.
  2. Personally I still vote for Chris Sabo.
  3. It's only been like 4 years since they were in the playoffs.
  4. Subverting the corporate film funding structure to wish you a happy birthday.
  5. The White Stripes - Icky Thump Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond Blanche - Little Amber Bottles Glenn Branca - The Ascension Shellac - Excellent Italian Greyhound
  6. I love them AND am disgusted by them.
  7. When I used to frequent the Magic Stick, I could usually find parking on Alexandrine, Willis or John R. I don't know if it's maybe a little harder now though, as it's been about 2 years since I was a regular there. One of my friends did have his car broken into while parked on John R once, but considering the dozens and dozens of shows we went to there, one incident seems almost like bad luck. Not that the neighborhood is great, but it isn't awful either. I never gave money to those guys who offered to watch the car, because usually they didn't even see which car was mine by the time they
  8. That makes Gagne's head look huge.
  9. An Okajima 7th, Gagne 8th, Papelbon 9th sounds pretty intimidating.
  10. I don't understand what you mean. He is not under contract to anyone after this season. The Red Sox have traded for him to add some depth to their bullpen for the rest of the season and the playoffs. Are you suggesting that they would trade him before the season is over? I guess they could trade him to another team that is trying to make a playoff run before the end of August (the deadline for playoff rosters is September 1st), but after August 1st, they'd have to put him on waivers first, and someone would almost certainly claim him. Also, if they only wanted him for the month of Augu
  11. Only if they sign him to an extension. His contract with the Rangers was just a one year deal. This deal is a short-term rental for the Red Sox, but probably worth it.
  12. I can't picture the Magic Stick (or any bar in Detroit, for that matter) not filled with smoke. I don't smoke cigarettes, but I think a smoke-free Lager House would make me cry.
  13. Castillo is past his prime, but is still solid on the defensive end. Definately an upgrade for the Mets.
  14. He admitted using substances that he claims he did not know were steroids. The book details his steroid use in a far more detailed way, and in such a way that would make it impossible for him to not know that they were steroids. His claim of being innocent contradicts the book quite a bit, but is not in contradiction to his testimony.
  15. Dye to Boston seems to be off the table, although he may still end up in Arizona. I've also heard Dotel to the Dodgers or Mariners, Al Reyes to the Mariners, Clint Barmes to Detroit, Kyle Farnsworth to Detroit, and Johnny Damon to Baltimore, although that last rumor seems to have died before it really got off the ground.
  16. Yeah, I'm hoping for more midwest dates too, as I failed to get Chicago tickets, and would definately be willing to drive to Indianapolis or Milwaukee or something if they'd play.
  17. Oh yeah, Capoeira is something that I checked out extensively but never got around to. Seems like it would be incredibly fun. Not really what it sounds like he's looking for though.
  18. I was heavily involved in martial arts throughout my childhood and teen years. There are a ton of different styles of martial arts out there that offer a whole lot of different things. No matter what style you choose, I would recommend checking out several clubs before signing up. There are a lot of schools of varying quality out there, and certainly a good number of them are just after your money. Don't sign up anywhere that requires you to sign a long term contract, especially if they don't have some sort of trial period first. The style that I trained in mostly was Tang Soo Do, which
  19. Has he proven himself to be especially litigious in the past?
  20. I almost wonder if there actually would be a good way to project something like that, beyond the flawed work of that particular author. Like maybe using similarity scores (which I believe are era-adjusted in some models), and then using PECOTA projections based on the performances of the most similar seasons by other players in the modern era.
  21. That's pretty ridiculous, and it's not that hard to explain why. Every era has it's own unique circumstances that effect the way the game is played in various ways. Sure, the size of the parks can theoretically make a significant difference. But that's just one of many factors to consider when comparing eras. Among the others: advances in nutrition, training techniques, steroids, and of course the field of competition, which you touched on. Watching the White Sox/Tigers game the other night, I heard Darin Jackson state that the fact that there are more teams now means that the lesser pl
  22. Well said. I agree with this too. I think that millions of dollars, hours upon hours of time, and and no chance to be successful are pretty good reasons not to sue. I have read the book, and it's incredibly detailed.
