That's fair. So what was it about the circumstances of those times that justified what happened then? What made it morally and legally acceptable to invade a continent, slaughter it's native people, and take over the land? And what is it about today's current circumstances that make it comparatively worse to immigrate illegally, work a shit job, and feed your family? I'm open minded and willing to learn.

Not even close to what I said, but thanks. What I said was, people could be a little more sympathetic and not so vindictive. I said explicitly that I saw the need for enforcing these laws. Look, I think that this issue may be impossible to deal with without at least a little bit of hypocrisy, but I think we could at least acknowledge this hypocrisy and stop pretending like these are terrible people who are doing something terrible. Given our history, I would just like us to approach this more reasonably and more level-headed without all the vindictiveness.

I would have Neko Case sing at my wedding, but she'll probably be too distracted being the bride, so it's probably not a good idea. [/creepy]

Yeah, there are a few million dead Native Americans who would probably agree with you on that. Sorry, for some reason I'm overly sensitive to this issue, I guess. I understand that the law is the law, and that we have to enforce them to a degree. I just think that the tone of the debate on this particular issue is often particularly vindicitive and lacking in compassion, especially considering our own history and how this nation came into being in the first place (not necessarily here, but just in general). If certain laws are necessary for our security, then fine, but I can't stand it wh

There are several good teams in the NBA who play excellent fundamental basketball, but whenever they go far, people complain that they're boring.

If the NBA really went under, college basketball would be close behind though. Without the NBA, the best high school athletes would all go play other sports in college. They're gonna follow the money.

Got to listen to this now that I'm home from work. Pretty cool. Thanks, solace. -

Oh, also meant to answer this... He's playing bass for Flipper. -

Yeah, is there a minimum number of albums a band has to release before one of their songs is worthy of being covered? I'm confused. -
I agree that it's not a first amendment issue and within their rights so long as it really was their decision. However, the telecom industry is so tightly knit with the Bushies that I have to wonder if they were asked/told to do this by someone in the government, in which case it would become a first amendment issue. And if they were doing it on their own in order to endear themselves...well then its sort of questionable.

I think Lieberman is probably an unofficial PNAC member. Of course he isn't even officially a Democrat anymore, and for the last several years that he was, he was really a DINO.

Kate told me that she tried to make out with all the ladies. True?

Certainly arguable how significant this is, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.

Is that so? How big of a difference between the AL and NL? Because if it's close, it could probably just be attributed to the fact that in the NL they get to pitch to the pitcher, who can more easily be gotten out just by whizzing a heater past him. Also, regardless of which league throws more breaking balls on average, if it's well known that Pena can't hit a curve, he's going to see a ton of curveballs regardless of what league he's in.

Kristol was one of the main architects of this disastrous foreign policy. I'm not sure why he isn't considered to be completely discredited by just about everybody.

Was there ever really any question about what the report would say anyways? If Bush had the slightest inkling that the "Patraeus Report" wouldn't be glowing, he wouldn't be leaning on it so heavily for credibility. Hayes is a shill and I felt no sympathy for him getting torn apart last night. And I agree with the sentiments that it's sad that Jon Stewart is the hardest hitting journalist on TV, and he isn't even a journalist. He really took it personally when John Gibson questioned the sincerity of his pain after 9/11, and it looks like he's not putting up with that bullshit anymore.

The Veterans Committee often does reward nice guys who played on good teams. Their record is bad, but then again, so is the BBWAA's, so whatever.

Personally I think that there's a better case that Rizzuto should have been left out of the HoF than there is for Tramm getting in, and I say that as a Tigers fan. I really wish Rizzuto hadn't just died so that I could say that without feeling like I'm pissing on the man's grave. Stupid baseball.

Holy Cow! Phil Rizzuto passes away at 89
MrRain422 replied to aricandover's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
With all due respect to Rizzuto, Yogi Berra got ripped off that year. Rizzuto had an excellent year for sure (especially in an era where shortstops weren't expected to do much offensively), but Berra put up significantly better numbers than Rizzuto as a friggin' catcher.
