  1. Yeah, you're probably right. Sometimes I forget how much of a musical bubble I live in.
  2. Are people still interested in seeing Van Halan? Really? With EVH's son on bass? Really? Will they be playing state fairs?
  3. There are some actual lawyers around here who would know way more about this than me, but I'm pretty sure that it will be difficult to get this matter up to the point where the Supreme Court can even rule on it. Before the Supreme Court can rule on it, there has to be a lawsuit filed on a lower level, by someone who has standing. In order to have standing, you have to show injury. Since all of this is secretive, and none of us know who has or has not been spied on, it's impossible to show injury. The ACLU failed in an attempt to file suit over domestic wiretapping earlier this year for tha
  4. I really don't think anyone here was suggesting that drug abuse is not a serious problem, or that children should do drugs.

  6. Couldn't care less who's religious and who isn't, but there are laws regarding use of government facilities and resources in regards to religious practice, and they need to be followed. And I also think it is perfectly reasonable for people to question in what ways religious beliefs influence policy. People are certainly free to believe whatever they want to believe, but our government affects all of us, and to the extent that those religious beliefs damage the country, it is perfectly within our rights to question them.
  7. It was pretty much the coolest thing that's ever happened to me. Best performances of the weekend for me: 1) Iggy & the Stooges 2) The Roots 3) Patti Smith 4) Pearl Jam 5) Femi Kuti
  8. I got on stage with the Stooges and hugged Mike Watt.
  9. I think you guys are arguing different things. Bobbob seems to be arguing that wins are useless in evaluating how good a pitcher is. This is essentially true. Lammycat seems to be pointing out that it is a stat that is often used in evaluating player contracts and in how people inside the game often evaluate pitchers. This is also true (even though it probably shouldn't be). There really isn't one stat that can tell you everything you need to know about a pitcher (perhaps DIPS, but I think there's still some work that has to be done on that). That being said, here are some stats that ca
  10. Might want to make sure that the venue allows you to bring in lawn chairs. A lot don't.
  11. You can maybe learn a little bit about a pitcher's longevity from wins, and hey, longevity is definately important in evaluating a pitcher. That being said, you are still learning more about the quality of teams that he's played on. It's not a completely meaningless stat, but really not very helpful in understanding how good a pitcher is.
  12. Signed the petition at Lolla over the weekend.
  13. If Michigan loses this year, I can explain it already. Half their defense was gutted. That being said, the offense should be a juggernaut, and I'm feeling pretty confident about my boys this year. GO BLUE!
  14. Pitch count limits shouldn't keep win totals down so much -- combined with better training and nutrition, it may actually increase them by giving guys longer careers (of course it's impossible to really measure this for sure since we can't know how long these guys would have lasted in different eras). But the 5-man rotation is certainly making an impact on individual win totals. It wouldn't surprise me if Randy Johnson keeps playing until he gets his 300th (provided his arm doesn't give out on him all together). There are a few young guys who I think are good enough to have some nice, long

  16. I can understand why he might be disappointed or ashamed, but I also think he doesn't have to be so open about his contempt for Bonds. Selig made his bed and now he has to lay in it. When he's in public, he should be more conciliatory and pretend to be happy about it. Not that I care all that much really. A-Rod's 500th was probably a bigger deal long term. He's 32 years old. Jesus.
  17. At least he showed up though. He's obviously a bitter old coot.
  18. Hey, that was in Ann Arbor. That stuff is almost legal there.
  19. My old housemates and I used to get Crave Cases fairly frequently. I kept an empty one for a while to keep paraphernalia in.
  20. Gotta love a game where neither starting pitcher makes it out of the second inning. Although it looks like only 3 of the 8 runs Clemens gave up were earned, so he got railed by some bad defense backing him up. Not sure why they would need to pull him so quick, other than to save him from the fans.
