I am thankful that I can still be amazed and moved by music. I am so very thankful for my wonderful wife and spectacular kids.

These things showed up in the late 80's after some fired employees apparently stole the masters. And this is just the stuff we know about.

Between 1977 and 1983, Bruce probably recorded upwards of 100 songs. Epic Sessions for Darkness led to even more epic sessions for The River and Born in the USA. If Bruce can get over the lack of video material in the Studio from those two sessions, we could see some really epic stuff over the next five years.

For years, I let Greil Marcus' terrible review of Steet Legal color my judgement of it. The intervening years have left me with the view that Street Legal is genius and Greil Marcus is a pompous ass.

Wrong... Gardenhire has won his division 6 of his first 9 years. He overcame some really critical injuries and got the most out of his team. The most egregious actions in the voting is people leaving Ron Washington off the ballot. If I had a vote I would have Gardenhire #1, Washington #2 (although I can make a damn strong case for him as MotY) and Francona #3 -

Really nice stuff last night...although Jimmy Fallon fawned so much I thought he was going to ask Bruce for an autograph

I think I can...but to me it's not the point of release.

Actually, I'm not really sure that I personally care what songs have been sweetened. Contexturally, The Promise is not document as much as it is an artistic accomplishment.

My 'sadness' is not so much about what Bruce has become. Up until Working on a Dream, I think Bruce had been on a real winning streak and the tour somewhat mitigated the averageness of WoaD. It is a sadness bourne of the realization of the loss of what was. Not the loss of talent, but the loss of innocence, the loss a limitless future. Time waits for no one, and it won't wait for (me) anyone. I hope this release is a palate cleanser, that Bruce has more music to release. But this release would be the perfect capstone to a glorious career. The absolute Damnedest thing about The Darkness/Pro

The "over dubbed songs" as you refer them are, frankly, sublime. If you are any sort of a Springsteen fan, then you SHOULD NOT MISS THIS.

I'm not having thereaction to The Promise that I anticipated I would. I am enjoying it, but feeling sad nostalgia. Watching the 61 year old Bruce talk about the 27 year old he was hit me. We are all mortal, and we are all heading to the same fate. I am feeling sad for my lost innocence, my lost youth and missing those great things that happened all those years ago. Very morose and I never, ever anticipated feeling this way. The music is great, the presentation is cool and it is all wonderful, but is leaving me feeling really rotten. WTF?

To the matter at hand: The Promise/remastered Darkness on the Edge of Town is masterful. The packaging in wonderful and the DVD features are better than top-notch. Good times are here.

I am liking it so far...
