1994-Sleeps with angels prolly the best post 1980. the 200s are another story. silver and gold is classic as is greendale. i really think those two records, although not containing and hits, are the essence of neil young. the songwriting, the production, and the accompanying musicians. 1995-Mirrorball-an acquired taste. i know it's cliche, but i wish it was produced better. there are some classic riffs on there, but it's a hard album to listen to all the way through. 1996-Broken Arrow-Awesome pure crazy horse album. Loose Change does go on too long though and I wish he would've put

mtbed, i'm from dayton and know canal street really well. never saw david nelson there, but saw a bunch of other stuff, like hookah and of course the jam band i was in. we actually had a little jam scene goin' on there from about 93-97. we played at the old sub galley, all of us. even had a joshua light show of sorts. i used to see dead ringers at Mcguffy's house of draft in Fairborn near hara arena. small world! c

for a while it was 4, if you add in his full time gig with phil for a while.

dead ringers was such a treat back then. saw them in this very small bar in ohio several times. would walk in to find tom constantin(sp) just sittin' at the bar waiting for the show to start. it was a great gathering for local heads. i remember they did the wheel with the pedal steel. so cool.

too bad it's warren haynes. he just doesn't fit in my opinion. at least it's just one keyboard player and one guitarist though. there's just been too many instruments in the past 'reunions'. my wish would be to have bruce hornsby on keys singing all the jerry songs exclusively and steve kimock on guitar. i would travel for that. alas, i know it's a no go given the past with phil and kimock and bruce's continuous foray into blandness.

1991-Weld over produced live album, but what a comeback live album. 1992-Harvest Moon This may be the best of the post 1980 era. again, nothing as amazing as the 70s, except unknown legend. i saw neil on his solo tour before this released and was amazed at the songs. there's a bit of 80s goofiness thrown in on a few songs, but it hangs together well. unfortunately, i can't think of any stand out tracks besides unknown legend. as an album it's okay and a nice 'return to form', but no amazing tracks. hank to hendrix is kinda goofy, dreamin' man has such an intrusive back up vocal, such

funny thing about trans is that the production is so warm and great. and yes, the vocoder tune are really good songs. yeah, zuma is good. i just wish it was all electric with out the two acoustic tunes thrown in. and yes, i wish spook was the last song rather than natural anthem on RG.

The 90s... From Freedom on through the end of the 90s, Neil didn't miss a beat. he was still inconsistent, but the quality of tunes was better as was production. 1990-Ragged Glory As far as I am concerned, RG is the second real crazy horse record (the first being EKTIN). just neil and the band. no random tunes from other sessions thrown in and no cheese. that being said, i have a hard time listening to this all the way through. some of the lyrics are terrible and some of the songs do have a toss of feel to them. i love country home, white line, over and over. the love songs are a bi

the comeback! 1989-freedom not up to 70s standards, but still a pretty good album. the two versions of rockin' are good, if not overplayed. crime in the city is excellent with the subtle horns and acoustic guitar. same with eldorado. ways of love is a bit cheesy, but i love hangin on a limb and too far gone. broadway is so dumb, but it's neil. this might be his best album of the 80s-90s. it was definitely a breath of fresh air after the 80s. well said. i think all those tours would have been great fun! i can't wait for archive releases from those eras. shocking pinks would've been a fun live set before the 'real' neil young came out. intl harvesters did some cool versions of old neil classics. rusted out garage just looks amazing, given what i've seen. so, good points.

1981-Reactor All that crazy shit with his kid came up, but still neil managed an album. the production is warm yet tiny. there are a few fun tunes here like opera star and surfer joe. TBone and Shots are terrible. the acoustic version of shots, though, is up there with and of his gems. with side two of rust never sleeps, i think crazy horse became, at least for a while, this kind of novelty band. neil making fun of rock and roll. welfare mothers, into the black, the whole reactor album.

Few thoughts: 1980-Hawks and Doves-totally inconsistent. the first 3 songs are masterpieces. i wish neil had put out some amazing introspective album in the 70s with all those gems including little wing, old homestead, home fires, lost in space, sad movies, try, stringman, hitchhiker, will to love, pardon my heart, too far gone, etc. i know some of those tunes were supposed to be on homegrown. maybe i'll have to make a mix. next up...1981.

well said. i really hope they recapture some of that pride of being able to play the tunes with precision and feeling. i still have hope for this given trey's comments about wanting to play YEM every day for the rest of his life. i would be happy if the band chose 20 songs and just practiced the shit out of them and then slowly adding other songs over time (instead of going out there and half assing it with long versions of Waves and Pebbles and Marbles. my hope that the list would be as follows: Mike's Curtain Slave YEM Divided Sky Esther Bowie Antelope Squirming Coil Reba Rift Maze It'

another issue is, if blue ray, and even CD can hold so much info, why only 10-12 songs per disc. seems to me that he could condense and make early years one disc at least. c

good points. early, early stuff will be interesting from and archives perspective, but nothing i can see listening to more than once or twice. as you say, 'an untinkered' solo debut would be incredible, but we already get a taste of those tunes on canterbury. and yes, riverboat will be a rehash of canterbury, but maybe with a bit better production and neil being a bit more polished. the only real stuff i am looking for is good quality versions of Everybody's Alone and It Might Have Been. these are unreleased, but we already knew about them! i was really thinking we were gonna get at le
