  1. started out okay, then the "uh!" and all the diamond dave rapping ruined it. produced pretty good though. please tell me this was joke AMAN.
  2. if you can't finish a song, here's some advice. go to F then C then G...back to the chorus....and done.
  3. is mark spencer in the band now? he was great with farrar solo. why doesn't jay play lead too. he is so good! even the search?
  4. they should've gotten it! it wasn't jay farrar, it was son volt man!
  5. i'm up and down with him. the first three son volt albums are utter classics in my book. why aren't the boquist brothers in the band anymore?
  6. well, i think you're right about the new album. it definitely requires some attention and it is a grower. good points there. as far as smile and sound of lies, i don't really know why i don't like them. i've tried several times and i just can't get into them. i remember buying sound of lies the day it came out and being so pissed:). smile would have been a bit better for me if it had been more country...whatever that means. so i loved rainy day. really a 'return to form' i guess. much of my comments about the gary and olson stem from my strengthening belief that some artists are just b
  7. rick rubin owns the name jayhawks...ridiculous! since seeing them last week, i've been revisiting their music, solo and jayhawks. there's no denying that mark and gary are at their best together. hollywood and tomorrow the green grass are just classic albums up there with any great album of the last 50 years. (except 10 little kids...such a dumb song). smile and sound of lies are just completely different beasts. i personally don't like them at all. hence not a real fan of gary's solo album. mark's creekdipper stuff is fun, but way underproduced and victoria williams is tough to take.
  8. oh yeah, he does get at least 3 songs. my point was that one song can make one a millionaire. my dad was a youth minister in the late 70s and i remember him taking the youth group to the skating rink. i got to go with him and i distinctly remember hearing Baker Street with the disco ball swirling and the skaters doing the boogie bounce!
  9. addiction is brutal, no doubt. that said, City to city is a great album. just a total 70s album that is so smooth. wish they produced them like that these days. maybe a little less smooth though. there is a song on there called 'stealin' time' which is amazing. it's amazing the man makes a living on two songs. it's like randy meisner...he co-wrote take it to the limit and makes a good living off of it FOREVER!
  10. saw gary and mark in atlanta at eddie's attic. great show. wonder why jayhawks don't just reunite? anyway, gary said that beginning this year all the Jayhawks stuff is being reissued with bonus tracks etc. he also said there is gonna be a box set, live set, dvd, etc. sounds pretty awesome!
  11. my post was rude and ridiculous. peace
  12. http://www.glidemagazine.com/articles/5440...andy-moore.html engaged.
  13. No, it's fair. seriously, conservative radio is pissed about it because they wont be able to get away with as much bullshit as usual. (i say conservative radio, because there is no liberal radio. they would be having to change things a bit too.)
  14. the thing is that all the tunes on SBS, besides SBS and Please Be Patient, are utterly compelling. each is like a little symphony with several connecting parts. not like prog rock, but true art pop. tweedy's basic songs with cool instrumental parts. now as far as nels taking more of a role in the new album, i see it being more of what we had on SBS, but with more textures and maybe more extensions of song themes. it doesn't have to be electric either. given nels new acoustic album, i would love to see a basic tweedy tune with either a long acoustic textured intro by nels or a long outro o
  15. i actually hope nels really plays a big role in arrangement this time. he is an untapped treasure in wilco and not just a sideman. given his new release, the new album could be utterly amazing if they let nels go off on tweedy's basic songs. add in some tasty bass from john and glenn's warm drumming and we might have a masterpiece! c
  16. most of the stuff on strange trip is culled from europe 72. live album from, well, 1972. pick it up. on a side note, i always thought that had they shelved europe 72 and put out another album after american beauty it would have been KILLER. can you imagine nice tight versions of jack straw, Tjed, he's gone, ramble, BT women. my hunch is bob didn't have enough tunes for an album. c
  17. you could add 'nude' to your description. swimmers and hippies like to get naked.
  18. does anyone have an answer to my question. for what it's worth, i didn't watch.
  19. i don't get why Raising Sand and Neil Young's No Hidden Path were up for grammys this year. those albums came out a year and a half ago. last year they should've been nominated, right?
