  1. yeah, i meant to say, most folks there couldn't afford a ticket. i will never buy a ticket for that much money again. i don't think i'll buy a ticket period for a while. petty is coming to town in august. may go down and try to get a cheap seat if i feel like it. but over $50 for a concert ticket is completely and utterly ridiculous. music lovers are such suckers
  2. saw neil in atlanta last night. bert jansch opened up. both were great. i was actually trying to sell my tix before the show as the setlist and reviews looked a little touch and go to me. alas, the internet fails me again. neil was excellent. stood tall and looked like he could play for another 30 years. 3 classic acoustic songs were great. then 3 new songs on an acoustic with effects. great lyrics and kinda swampy. the rest of the guitar songs were on electric. very nice deconstructed cortez the killer and a killer hitchhiker. new songs too. 3 keyboard songs. a nice pop ditty on
  3. YES! good stuff there. sad to hear this. love Easy Rider. looked like david crosby.
  4. yes, television. i love their music, but verlaine is too tough to take.
  5. how about great albums with terrible second songs. Led Zep III. i hate that song Friends.
  6. i remember in rolling stone a few years ago they interviewed randy miesner and bernie leadon from the first incarnation of the eagles. they live off their share of the royalties of those albums as they go platinum every year or something. i assume beatles and led zep are like that too.
  7. Great topic! i thought of all of those mentioned...built to spill, kings of leon, radiohead, hold steady. i would add band of horses to the mix as well as iron and wine. it's really too bad about this. especially kings of leon. their first few albums are produced so well. i just don't get the lazy vocals of them. and thom york borders on annoying. the dude from hold steady doesn't sing at all. i've thought of them as the mighty mighty boss tones with out horns;)
  8. thanks for the recommendations. phases sounds interesting. i actually liked that reggae album he did a few years ago. also, the man is an album machine. at least one a year, not including all the ridiculous comps.
  9. yeah, i've been going back and forth with physical vs mp3, as this thread documents. however, if i really like and album, the reality is that i want the physical product; lossless audio, case, photos, liner notes. i like the back pictures as much as the inside. also, i'm more apt to give an album a real chance if i invest in the cd. some of my favorite albums turned out that way because i only had money for one cd a month in high school. had to make a good choice and really give it a chance. that was great because it was one cd and me and nothing else. no internet BUZZ about mediocre st
  10. love his guitar playing. i like red headed stranger. any other albums i should check out?
  11. good call with matthew sweet. that album would make a good pic in a 'best first few songs' list. such a great 'first side'.
  12. this is so great! the guy has a bunch of other stuff on there, including the pure jerry series. can't wait to dig into those. Thanks Mr. Heartbreak!!
  13. Cool topic! Feel Like A Stranger-Grateful Dead: Without A Net At Least That's What You Said-Wilco:AGIB Black Dog-Zep: IV Out On The Weekend-Neil Young: Harvest Yours Is No Disgrace-Yes: Yes Album I could do this all day!
  14. that was ridiculous. i just wish they'd done something original other than true love saves the day and everyone goes to heaven. also, the poor baby went to heaven as a baby. not grown up in the least. that sux.
  15. i did see the other religions's stuff. however, it was a church and the whole bright light was obviously a christian heaven. no big deal. at the same time, i may have been a bit harsh about the common denominator comment. however, everyone going to heaven at the end is very 'lowest common denominator' as far as i'm concerned. again, network television.
  16. yeah, i knew they had that song on the last proper album. didn't know if it had any meaning. if not, funny thread
  17. but golden smog has been around a lot longer than 8 years..right?
  18. spoilers below..maybe. few thoughts. i really wish they hadn't used Christian heaven. just so 'least common denominator'. i really wish that the alternate timeline was as a result of time reset from the bomb at the end of season 5. but, the island timeline needed to finish up as it did. however, it would have been cool if when jack did his thing at the end there was one final flash coinciding with the alt timeline becoming real time with characters remembering the shit they went through in the island time line. with the flash, the island sinks. the end. with that ending there wouldn
