Now I was just a girl of two Now I was just a girl of two With a golden heart and a button shoe The devil had a hold of me The devil had a hold of me I turned my head and I could see The devil had a hold of me There was something wrong with the butcher's boy Was something wrong with the butcher's boy He trembled in his hand and voice The devil had a hold of me The devil had a hold of me The others knew to let him be But the devil had a hold of me Now the tailpipe spit and the engine roared The tailpipe spit and the engine roared I's waving out the Plymouth door And the devil had a ho

Wow! What a review. You've completely sold me. I shall be looking for a copy of it very soon. I must say...I really do enjoy reading through the recommendations and reviews in this thread.

I've been listening to these two albums a lot lately. I'm hoping for an eventual tour of Australia.

I'm struggling with it a little, actually. I enjoy the style of writing but I'm about a third of the way in and I'm yet to become fully engaged with what's going on. I will prevail, though, and get through it as I've been in this place before with some books yet have ultimately been rewarded upon finishing them. We shall see.

Thank you for the the responses. I shall definitely add him to my list. Am currently reading this 'cause it's been lying around the house: After this I'll be reading John Irving's new one which I'm very much eager to read. I had a peak at the first two paragraphs and I was hooked. His writing just keeps getting better.

Wow! I learnt how to play guitar with this album. Death Defying, Bittersweet, Like Wow Wipeout...all great songs for burgeoning guitarists in Australia in the 80s. Great memories. Thank you! Anyways... Listening to right now:

I still dig Leonard Cohen's newie from the start of this year. And I'm looking forward to Cat Power's new record sometime later this year.

I saw them play this when they were last in Sydney (sans Jody Stephens). It was one of the highlights of the night. "Thank You, Friends" had preceeded it. John's voice is made for this song.

This is sad news. I remember as a kid my Mum taking me to a record store to buy me my first album. I didn't know what I wanted so the girl behind the counter picked two albums and placed them on the counter. A Little River Band record and this one: I chose the Bee Gees because I had heard the song "Tragedy" on the radio. Although that song isn't on this record it did contain a song called Lonely Days which used to send shivers up my spine as I air drummed with my mother's largest knitting needles. Wow, even finding the image for this cover on the net has brought back a lot. I haven't se

So many recommendations, so little time! But I shall make sure I get around to them all. Over the last few weeks I have finished: Such clear, stark and beautiful writing. My head was in the French countryside each time I opened its pages. Then I went onto: which was a wonderful trip. I love stepping into a character's head. I guess that's why I dig first person narratives. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of David Mitchell's books. Now I've started: *** I was looking at a copy of Infinite Jest in a bookstore today. Has anyone read David Foster Wallace? I

I posted this in the youtube forum but it's worth a showing here as well. I've watched this a few times. The trumpet solo is wonderful: http://www.tristudios.com/videos/uncle-johns-band-bridge-session

Just finished Le Grande Meaulnes and enjoyed it immensely. Such beautiful writing. Over the last few weeks I have looked forward to diving into its pages every night. Ultimately a sad book about childhood disappearing and the complexities of adulthood. The chateau for Meaulnes is like Gatsby's green light. But now I've decided to try another David Mitchell book. I wanted to start chronologically but this afternoon in the bookstore could not find Ghostwritten so instead I bought: What's the take on David Mitchell in this forum. Have any good folks around here read much of his work?

I've just finished "Black Swan Green" by David Mitchell. Utterly beautiful. It's going to haunt me for a while. I love it when a book does this to me. That has lead me to this:
