A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe
jff replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah, that song is pretty dreary. I love Dylan, but taking his entire catalog into consideration, he really does not have a very good batting average. -

+1 and I'll raise you a Steve Earle. EDIT: And for that matter, Uncle Tupelo is boring, too. -

I think Dave's resolve to NEVER reunite just got cemented. -
Yeah, that is a good one, although I've only read the version that's called Backstage Passes. Did he add material when it was rereleased as Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards? There's a good Al interview in the latest Tape Op magazine.

Pixies' Doolittle 20th anniversary tour

Blues Traveler Jethro Tull Vic Chesnutt All have performed with lead singers in a wheelchair. Probably wasn't any of them, though. -
Pixies' Doolittle 20th anniversary tour

When I saw them a few years ago the opener was The Thrills. They were anything but thrilling. On the Trompe tour Pere Ubu was the opener. Pretty awesome. -
Pixies' Doolittle 20th anniversary tour

All tours are cash raking exercises. I thought the Pixies on their last tour were every bit as good as they were on the Trompe tour. They may have been past their prime as a live band even by then, though. -
Andrew Loog Oldham agrees.

I've never heard it, so I don't know what it's like. I'm hoping I'll come across a copy sometime soon.
-
It Takes a Lot to Laught, It Takes a Train to Cry is good on Super Session, too. Actually, I like that whole album. Have you heard Kooper Session, with Shuggie Otis?
-
How do you keep track like that? I don't even know where to begin. I bought $20 worth of 25 cent records early in the year. Got a ton of real gems that I've been meaning to check out...Pentangle, Country Joe & the Fish, Laura Nyro, Richie Havens, a few good jazz LPs (Lee Morgan at the Lighthouse, Modern Jazz Quartet), etc. My most recent purchase is Mary Timony's "Golden Dove" (which complete's my Mary Timony solo discography). Hopefully that'll show up in the mail today.

More evidence that Reid Miles is a genius.

I saw about 15 minutes of a Six Organs show a few years ago and it was awesome. I've been meaning to check out some recordings, but haven't gotten around to it yet. What are Tyst Minut and Samtidigt? I have all of Dungen's main releases (aside from the self titled one), but I'm not familiar with those.

They are a fantastic live band. I've seen them on their last two tours. Hopefully they'll be coming around again before too long.
-
I hate to admit it, but I would have a very hard time naming ten artists from this decade that I listen to regularly. having said that, I nominate Dungen.

I have a similar PA, made by Peavey. It died on me, none of the inputs produced sound and I brought it to a shop for repair. Turns out the input jacks just needed to be resoldered. It's apparently a common problem with Peavey and, I assume, other lower end pieces of gear as the inputs don't have shock mounts. It was a $30 repair and it's been working like new ever since. Maybe even better than new. Your symptoms seem to be a little different than mine were, but you might get lucky. I'd definitely have someone look it over before buying a new one.

Wood, by his won admission, has a talent for going broke over and over again.

That looks very handy. Unfortunately, my music gear and my computer do not mingle.

Your favorite 80's American "college rock" band
jff replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
My favorite underground band FROM the '80s that I listened to a lot IN the '80s was probably Black Flag. My favorite underground band during my college years (most of the '90s) was probably fIREHOSE. -
I also prefer Exit, but if I recall, the band has admitted to extensive studio fix-ups on that one. Not that Amazon cares about such things.
