I don't know how they sound. I saw an ad for one in a magazine yesterday. It looks like one of those amps that is designed to do too many things for it's own good. More than 5 knobs on an amp, and I start getting nervous and confused. This thing has dozens of knobs. I wouldn't even know where to begin with an amp like that.

My Telecaster is just about as heavy as a Les Paul. I like Les Pauls, and intend to buy myself one on my next major birthday.

I haven't heard it, but that might be a fun off-the-wall Nels recording to hear...plus, you can often find copies of that album in bargain bins.

Perhaps you could tell your dad you'd like some time to try out all the guitars before you make your decision. Some guitars just aren't going to feel right in your hands (I've never found Gibson SGs comfortable to play, for instance), and others might feel like they were made especially for you. That should be a factor in your decision. It'd be great to own a fantastic vintage instrument like your dad's Gretsch, but ultimately you need something that feels right and is comfortable to play. And if you think it looks cool, you'll want to play it more and as a result you'll become a better p

It's not like he's offering it to a stranger. I still say take the Gretsch and if you're serious about playing guitar for the long term you can always get a Tele. On the other hand, those who say you'll probably inherit it ALL the guitars could be right. That's a good point. It'll be up to you to make sure your dad never gets rid of them or lets any grandkids anywhere near them. In any case, pass on the Parker Fly.

He didn't step up tp the plate at any of the Wilco shows I've attended. I suspect he'll need to at their show in Atlanta next month. Chastain Park is notorious for yappers.

Yeah, Ken's on some of YHF, but the album was not done being recorded prior to Glenn joining. If that were the case, Glenn would not be on the album.

There were tons of problems with that article, mostly typographical stuff, that a quick proofread/edit would have fixed. That is a pretty major factual error, and it's poorly worded..."since after". Something about that just sounds bad. Pretty obvious mistake since Ken Coomer didn't even appear in IATTBYH.

Based on this new info, I would take the Les Paul out of consideration, and grab the Country Gentleman before your dad changes his mind. You can get a decent Tele any day of the week for fairly cheap. You're not going to be able to get a '64 Country Gentleman very easily. Now, if the Tele is also from the '60s that would probably sway me back towards the Tele.

I have a Tele and a Casino, so I'd probably take the Les Paul or the Gretsch. I had a Les Paul once and loved it. The Tele is probably the most versatile guitar on that list. I was Tele-crazy for a few years. They're great guitars. Pretty much everybody has used one at one time or another.

The NEWS media, with the exception of 60 Minutes, has largely given Bush a pass.

The Inkling is very good, but it is not new. I don't know the exact release date, but I got my copy at least four or five years ago, and it was not his newest release then. Anyway, good call on that one. It's a bit mellower, with Nels playing a lot of acoustic guitar. I want to check out that Damsel release. Destroy All Nels Cline is amazing. Both N. C. Singers albums are top notch (new one coming out pretty soon). There are a bunch of great ones.

Digitech Bad Monkey is $39. I think it sounds quite nice. I even think the Danelectro "Fab" Overdrive sounds good. It's only $15. It's probably not very durable, though.
