  1. I hope you're right, but "rain or shine" is not the same as "hail, lightning and damaging winds or shine". I went to see the Allman Brothers many years ago at Atlanta's other outdoor amphitheater. It rained so hard the day before the concert the entire front section was turned into a pond. The show was postponed until three days later. I know that's not relevant, but I thought I'd go into rainy-day storytime mode for a minute.
  2. Um, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this could be a disaster. Come prepared. From ajc.com: Good chance of rain for parched metro area By MIKE MORRIS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 06/19/07 A cold front sweeping toward North Georgia will be bring a near 100 percent chance of rain to metro Atlanta and much of the state. The National Weather Service pegged the chance of rain at 90 percent Tuesday afternoon, decreasing slightly to 70 percent overnight before tapering off to 20 percent on Wednesday. The rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms, with isolate
  3. That was the forecast for most days last week. The actual weather turned out to be mostly clear days with one short and fairly mild rainstorm in the evening, followed by cooler air and clearing skies. I'm going to knock on wood and hope that'll be the worst that tomorrow brings. You folks who are driving in from out of town, be safe and stay focused when you're driving. We have a lot of psycho drivers here, unfortunately, and tons of 18-wheelers on I-285.
  4. I can believe it. That was typical Chastain audience behavior. I hope (and am expecting) the Wilco audience will be more respectful.
  5. Depends. It POURED rain at a Neil Young concert during Lucinda William' opening set. Everyone ran over to the sides where there is a bit of a covered area. The rain stopped after only a short while. On another occaision, I saw Traffic play there. It rained heavily and steadily the entire time and everyone just stayed put and accepted the fact that they were going to be soaked. That was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. At the Traffic concert, just about everyone had umbrellas (but still got pretty soaked). I'm not sure if they still allow people to bring in umbrellas, but it'd b
  6. If I remember correctly, there are no sidewalks between the main road (Roswell Road) and Chastain amphitheater. I strongly discourage walking with small kids in that area. (It's possible I'm wrong about the sidewalks, or they've put in sidewalks since I was last there.) I think there are a bunch of places to eat on Roswell Road. I'd recommend finding something on Roswell Road and not heading over to the venue until you're ready to go into the concert. Actually, a better option would be to drive over to the venue, check out the area and see if there are sidewalks and then make up your mi
  7. Very good advice. Atlanta traffic is miserable, and this concert is on a weeknight.

    Atlanta Show

Not sure, It depends on whether you're in Orchestra Right, Orchestra Left or Orchestra Center. Doe it say on the ticket? Here's the seating chart: http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/114766/4564 Here's some info about Live Nation: http://www.answers.com/topic/cce-spinco-inc
  9. I just clicked the map link I posted above and it doesn't seem to be working as I intended. Sorry about that.
  10. OK, according to this map: http://maps.google.com/maps?tab=wl You can take I-75 to Mt. Paran Road (head North-East on Mt. Paran). Take a RIGHT onto Powers Ferry Road and the venue will be on your left. I've never driven this route, so you might want to check on the Chastain Park website and see what they recommend. http://www.classicchastain.com/pyv_location.aspx If you're coming from Roswell Road, you'll need to take West Wieuca Road to get to the venue. Make sure you take WEST Wieuca and not Wieuca.
  11. I'll think about this and try to come up with some drections for you. 75 will not turn into 285. They will intersect. Are you sure you're going to be on 75 North? From reading this site I thought you lived in Asheville, or something.
  12. Technically it is not in Buckhead, but it's pretty close. It's off of Roswell Road between Buckhead and I-285. And yes, the Roxy is on Roswell Road in Buckhead, right where Roswell Road starts/ends, if I'm not mistaken. Roswell Road near Chastain does not look snooty, it's just a road with strip malls and fast food restaurants. It's the Chastain Park residential neighborhood that is snooty.
  13. Based on all the photos it looks like they don't have a real piano on this tour. That's kind of a bummer, but I'm sure they manage to get good piano sounds from their keyboards.

    Atlanta Show

I just checked the seating charts. It's a little misleading. The seats in the "Orchestra" and "Table/Orchestra" sections are benches that are bolted to the ground and there is a LOT of room between the rows. When they have a table setup, they just place tables between the rows in the "Table/Orchestra" section. I don't think your seats would be any closer, you'd just have a table in front of you instead of empty space. I hope that helps.
  15. This concert is definitely not a table set-up show. I'm 100% positive of that. The grassy area inside the amphitheater is tiny, so you won't be able to do much walking. The venue is in a residential neighborhood with no stores or restaurants. It's sort of a golf/polo type of snooty upper-crust old-money neighborhood to be specific. You could probably walk around the neighborhood and the the park, and maybe bring a picnic basket or something (but you can not bring it into the concert). The restaurants nearby are all on Roswell Road, which is the main road close to the venue.
  16. I saw Social Distortion cut their show short because someone jumped onstage and stole the singer's hat. But they sucked to begin with, so it was no tragedy. I don't think Wilco would have punished the whole audience unless the fight was escalating to the point where innocent bystander were at risk. On the other hand, I can see how a fight that is easily visible from the stage would deflate the joy the band gets from playing music.
  17. FYI: Glenn's on the cover of the new Modern Drummer.
  18. Season tickets won't get you into this show, thank god.
  19. I'm sure Nels is in no mood to see fighting considering one of his friends just GOT MURDERED after a stupid argument got out of hand in a parking lot. Thanks for the reviews.
  20. Yes, but I don't remember what it is. I don't recall ever feeling like a concert at Chastain was shut down early, or anything. The neighborhood Chastain Park is in is also very strict when it comes to decibel levels. Fortunately, Wilco is not a band that believes that louder = more rockin', so that should not be much of a consideration. EDIT: Apparently the noise curfew is 11 pm. That's probably the approximate time their show at the Fox ended last time through town and I thought they were able to play a suitably lengthy show.
  21. Having re-read, he (she?) called it en "Elite" Casino. That's the same as the Elitist. Epiphone was forced to stop calling them Elite, so they changed it to Elitist. Dumb name, but very nice guitars. You can hardly go wrong at this point considering you have a Deluxe Reverb amp. One of the best amps ever.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, the orignal poster said he was considering an Elitist Casino. There's a big difference between a basic Epiphone Casino and an Epiphone Elitist Casino. The Elitist is going to be VERY high quality and will not have the issues Jimmy is referring to. The Elitist is a Gibson quality guitar, probably better than an assembly line Gibson. For the record, I have a basic Casino, and I agree about the tuners. The pickup selelctor is fussy, too. Luckily, I don't have any fret problems on mine.
  23. Kinks fans will know that this is an obvious statement, but you should check out "The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society". I don't know if you're going to find anything that's "out there" from the Kinks. If you want "out there" you'd be better off with Captain Beefheart, or something.
