  1. One From the Vault is a good live set. I think it's a recording of the release party for Blues for Allah.
  2. The area around the Colosseum is crawling with thieves. Wear a money belt or neck pouch, or something. They're a pain in the ass, but worth the trouble.
  3. That's definitely true. Don't try to drive in the city under any circumstances. When crossing a street on foot, look for the oldest lady you can find and walk next to her.
  4. Are these the same subpoenas that Cheney and Bush have brushed off? It's not likely that Alberto Gonzales will enforce them.
  5. Traffic changed quite a bit when they added Reebop Kwaku Baah.
  6. I went to Rome 7 years ago. Agreed, best pizza and gelato anywhere. Every single day we got lost and somehow wound up at the Pantheon.
  7. Is it possible you really mean: "I don't want other people hearing Wilco in those cheesy ads"? If you don't want to hear it, turn off the tv. I still believe it is LESS shameful to sell your song to the company of your choice than it is to get regular airplay on commercial stations.
  8. My copy hit the used bin last week. I traded it and Andrew Bird's "Mysterious Production of Eggs" for Charles Mingus "Pithecanthropus Erectus".
  9. So was Roger Waters responsible for the orchestral type of stuff on Atom Heart Mother, etc? I guess the Pink Floyd sound changed more because of the loss of Barrett, rather than Gilmour coming aboard. They seemed to lose all of their pop sensibilities (or perhaps they shunned them in favor of more avant garde pursuits) after Barrett and didn't really regain them until Meddle. I'll have to listen to those early post-Barrett albums again.
  10. I could be wrong about this, but based on the music they put out, the early Gilmour period was not successful**. Pink Floyd went from "the rising stars of swinging London" with Barrett to relative obsurity/cult status with Gilmour. It took several albums before they regained their success and built on it. **I realize success has nothing to do with the point of this thread. Certainly, Gilmour joining made a HUGE transformation in the band's sound.
  11. I thing Roger the Engineer is their best work. The Clapton years sound kind of generic to me, with only a couple tunes that stand out. Steve Howe replacing Peter Banks (along with Rick Wakeman taking over the keyboards) created the definitive Yes sound.
  12. The Music Master had a similar pickup as a Mustang if I'm not mistaken. Isn't the Music Master the same body style as a Mustang, but with only one pickup? You could probably just put a basic Fender style single coil in there. Or perhaps a lipstick pickup (like what Danelectros have) would be cool if you wanted to put something in that was less "stock".
  13. Yeah, it's a Jerry Jones. It's actually a far better quality guitar than anything Danelectro has ever made. Basically, they're Danelectro copies with upgraded parts.
  14. Jeff Beck replacing Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds.
  15. I can't tell which of the things on Iggy's face is his mouth.
  16. Yeah I know, but I'd rather just complain in this thread, if that's ok. It's easier than starting a new thread. Just like it's easier to stick with music from the US, UK and Canada than it is to check out music from other parts of the world. Actually, I don't really mean to complain. I'm just disappointed that this thread which I thought had so much promise has turned into such a dud.
  17. The original poster asked the question and then listed British bands, so he obviously meant "foreign" in the sense of from another country. So now we know a lot of people like Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Arcade Fire. I'm glad I've finally learned that.
  18. According to his cover story in Guitar Player magazine (March '05) his lap steels are "a '40s Gibson BR-9 and two Nationals". You can read the article here: http://www.guitarplayer.com/story.asp?storycode=1973
  19. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.
  20. THIS is your question? Do you have any questions worth answering?
  21. He was already in radio. But under the F.D. his statements/political philosophy would have been challenged on a level playing field. Must do work now. I will take my support of the F.D. to my grave. I can't even make sense of this drivel. What was your question?
  22. Very Limbaugh-esque response.
  23. If the F.D. had not been trashed, his network would have had to give equal time to opposing viewpoints. Pretty simple concept.
  24. The death of the Fairness Doctrine made Rush Limbaugh a multi-millionaire.
  25. That looked like a Les Paul to me, but my view was obscured by the rain.
