I might be more of a Stones fan today if I had started off with their Exile/Sticky Fingers era. As it happened, I listened to all of their early albums before I heard any of their post-British invasion ones (probably because my mom only owned the early ones). Despite having listened to Meet the Beatles a lot, I really got into the Beatles with Rubber Soul and Revolver. Those two were pretty much the soundtrack to my first car. I kind of dumped the Stones at that point, possibly because I had still only heard the first three or four albums and was sick of them. Back to the Zombies. I al

I used to think the Stones were better than the Beatles, but at that time I had only heard Between the Buttons and Meet the Beatles.
-
I'd do it more like this: Beatles>Kinks>Who>Zombies>Yardbirds>probably three or four other bands>Rolling Stones

I have the Fuel version. It sounds fine to me, but I must say I prefer listening to "Five Live Zombies" and the compilation cd of their A & B sides (I can't remember the exact title).

I admit a large part of the reason I voted for it is because I visited it as a youngster. Falling Water is a good call. I'm not familiar with the Terra Cotta Army. EDIT: Checked out the TCA...you're right, that's pretty amazing.

Yeah, I voted. The satue of liberty is the only nominee that does not deserve consideration. Colossus was built over 2000 years earlier, and was every bit as majestic and was roughly the same size. Considering that, the statue of liberty doesn't make me think "how does that even exist" like virtually all of the other nominees. It doesn't inspire "wonder". If they were going to nominate something in the US as a token gesture, the Golden Gate Bridge would have been a more suitable nominee. I voted for: Petra Great Wall Easter Island Stonehenge Machu Picchu Neuschwanstein Roman Colosse

For some reason my previous reply did not get posted. If you have any more new drywall to paint you might consider sealing it with a product made by Zinsser called "Gardz". It seals the drywall so it'll hold paint. I'm currently using Gardz to seal up some drywall damage from a wallpaper removal project. I haven't painted the walls yet, but it's supposed to accept paint just like a typical primer would. Your project looks good, by the way.

I'd rather listen to Huey Lewis than virtually any single that's been in Top 40 in the past 20 years.

You guys who are into jam-bands should check out Jeff Sipe aka "Apt. Q 258". That guy is an amazing drummer. I used to see him with Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit years ago. I'm sure he's still great, but I dropped out of the jam band scene after HORDE 2. George Hurley was a monster drummer back in the Minutemen and fIREHOSE days.

Ringo was the perfect drummer for the Beatles. Anyone who thinks Ringo is a bad drummer has not watched the full length version of the Beatles Anthology. Ringo tears it up on those European TV appearances. He was not a technically skilled drummer in a "blazing chops" type of way, but he was amazing at navigating a lot of complicated song structures and did it while maintaining an instantly recognizable sound and feel. Nobody can copy him convincingly, and many have tried.

Probably kind of hard to find, but if you can find it, it'll be the best song on your comp by a million light years... Band: Flap Song: Pickin' Up Trash Album: Flap Am In The House (Fat Boy Records)

Ok, point taken. Take the one sentence about TV shows out of my post and I still stand behind it.

I'm not going to read this 16 page mess. Wilco songs have been in TV shows. Did anyone cry then? Commercial radio play vs. selling a song for a television ad...there is ZERO difference in terms of "integrity" (or whatever the opposite of "selling out" is). Your song is most definitely being used as a commercial for a product either way. At least when your song is used in a specific ad you, and not the ad department at Clear Channel, get to choose the product.

I think you'll like it. It's sort of the same style as Mahavishnu: High-energy, crazy chops jazz rock. Same guitarist in both bands. All those Mahavishnu albums with Billy Cobham are great.
-
If you like Mahavishnu, you might want to check out "Emergency" and "Turn it Over" by Tony Williams Lifetime. John McLaughlin is on guitar and Larry Young on organ.

Joey Waronker is an amzing drummer. I saw him with Walt Mink years ago. Unbelievable. He was also good with Beck, but I only saw him w/ Beck on tv. I don't know what he's doing now. Darren Jesse was great in Ben Folds Five. I don't know what he's doing now, either. Being a drummer myself, most of the drummers that inspired me tend to be '60s/'70s rock guys who grew up playing jazz. Somehow, that's the stuff I listened to in high school in the '80s and '90s. Mitch Mitchell, Clive Bunker (from the first few Jethro Tull records), Michael Giles (original King Crimson line-up), Bill Bruf

It's pretty good. High Fives is on the money. It's easy to break the cd when trying to remove it from the book, so be careful.

I got mine yesterday, too. Row 14, PIT. woo-hoo!

I can't offer much assistance, but from what I've read the "room within a room" method is the way to go. Sounds like you're on the right track. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Mellow: The Inkling Free Jazz: Interstellar Space Revisited Avant Garde: Destroy All Nels Cline Jazz: New Monastery Rock: Mike Watt's "Contemplating the Engine Room" Jam Band: Banyan "Live at Perkins Palace" The Nels Cline Singers releases tend to me a mixed bag of the above styles, and are all highly recommended. There have been at least two threads asking the same thing in the "Just a Fan" section of this site in the past two weeks. Check there for more info.

They definitely were prior to Nels joining Wilco. I don't know if they still are.
