I don't think anyone said they hated Echo, but it is widely considered a flop for some reason. An old thread here was pretty negative towards it, much moreso than this thread. Cabin Down Below probably makes a good live song (dumb songs always work better live than on record, especially when you have 20,000 drunk fans). I can't remember if he played it when I saw him on the Echo tour. On record, it's a song that I thought was fantastic the first time I heard it and terrible every time since.

Totally. Lots of great songs on Echo. "Lonesome Sundown" and "One More Day, ONe More Night" are two of his best ballads. There's also no shortage of fun pop-rock tunes on there. "Accused of Love", "This Ones for Me" come to mind. No shortage of straight rock and roll, either, and some blistering lead guitar on "Room at te Top". Pretty much everything you could hope for from a Tom Petty record. Wildflowers has good songs, but to my ears it suffers in a big way from Steve Ferrone's heavyhanded drumming (maybe it's just mixed too loud). T.P. says he's STILL struggling to get that guy up

Cool, so all anyone needs is one issue? Does VG have lessons? I've flipped through it several times, but have only noticed their interviews and building/collecting types of articles. You can't really go wrong with a basic Tele. That's what I've got (Muddy Waters model) and have been thoroughly pleased. I'm saving my pennies for either an Epiphone Dot (ES 335 copy) or an Ibanez Artcore AS73 (similar to the Dot, but with bound neck and goofier looking F holes). Their customer service is excellent (or was a few years ago when I needed them to help me out). I called because I missed an issue, which might not even have been their fault, and they tacked on four free months. And that's on top of the fact that I got a 3 year sub from a special olympics fundraiser for $20, which probably made the magazine LOSE money. Contrast that with the hassles and accusations you get if you ever call Modern Drummer for help with your subscription...pathetic.

Guiter Player is the best guitar magazine I have found. Considering their cover price is close to $7 a subscription is the way to go. I think you can get a subscription for under $20.

I don't think there is anything at all wrong with releasing these recordings. On the contrary, I think the emotions expressed through the singing of a man about to die is about as fascinating as music can get, particularly when the singer is arguably the greatest of all time at expressing emotions through song.

That's good to hear. I'll probably swap my tubes out pretty soon. I've never done it. Is there anything I need to know in order to avoid electrocution, or can I just unplug the amp and get to work?

Did you have any trouble replacing the tubes? Many of the reviews at Harmony Central say it is hard to access the tubes due to protective metal plate, or something.

Yeah, it even looks a lot nicer than the photo in the link. In my opinion it's the best looking amp currently on the market (let's just admit it: appearance matters). Great sound, too. I've read that swapping out the stock tubes (Sovteks) with JJ/Teslas makes it sound even better.

I just got a Traynor Custom Valve 20 (YCV20WR) and love it. They sell for something like $500-$600 new, but you can find them on ebay for $350. It's a 15 watt tube amp, but if you need more power they make 50 and 80 watt models. These amps have more features than most other 15 watt tube amps on the market.
