I think he said at one time the The Band made him want to cut out the guitar solos. Then again, he said that at the end of Cream, but he kept doing long solos with two more bands before his singer-songwriter/very little soloing era started.

I've read (and watched) a lot of Jeff Tweedy interviews. Some of the quotes in the first one seem like they're either made up or paraphrased.
