  1. Joe the Plumber was on the front page of yesterday's New York Post, so he was a known entity.
  2. Maybe President Obama will come visit us here in Hyde Park to get some FDR vibes.
  3. Last fall, I witnessed my nephew become a Red Sox fan. We were watching the Sox beat the Rockies, and all of a sudden he turns to me and goes, "I love the Red Sox." My nephew has New York roots, was born in Chicago and until last week lived in Albuquerque, N.M. Oh, and congrats to the Phillies and their fans. I hope the Mets are watching them celebrate.
  4. People with big enough egos to think they know what's good for somebody else, which includes many of us, at times. (Certainly myself.) I am sympathetic to the atheists when they argue that religion impinges on their lives via culture and legislation - liquor stores were closed around here on Sundays until a few years ago, for instance, and think of the tax revenue we could get off churches - but I think theistic and atheistic morality-determining-techniques many times come to similar answers.
  5. Sorry about that. The book "The Bad Guys Won" is a poorly-written, cliche-riddled piece of crap, but it has some funny stories in it.
  6. I have voted for three Republicans in my life - my dad, who I knew was really a Democrat, my dad's friend and the man who makes the trains run on time here in Dutchess County.
  7. For what it's worth, here are my favorite epic fantasy authors in order of prowess and enjoyability. 1. Gene Wolfe. Furreals. The Book of the New Sun is the shit. Dazzling in its inventiveness; truly transporting to another world. 2. J.R.R. Tolkien. Well, duh. Moral instruction delivered in inspirational form. 3. Robert E. Howard. - love his pulp prose style - clean and evocative. 4. Michael Moorcock. - a very good writer, prolific at a high level and imaginative as hell.
  8. They said the same thing about the Mets in the '80s. (Though it was kind of true in that case - those dudes were dicks.)
  9. Some states, you can vote by filling out a form and mailing it in, even if you will be around on Election Day.
  10. Well, the Yankees decades-long tradition of arrogance and air of entitlement is what made them an evil empire. Boston is nowhere near that.
  11. INTP. "The world exists primarily to be understood."
  12. Years in the cellar=good draft picks, which the organizations have wisely developed.
  13. Ohio executes man who argued he was too fat to die By MATT REED, Associated Press WriterTue Oct 14, 2:12 PM ET Ohio executed a 5-foot-7, 267-pound double murderer Tuesday who argued his obesity made death by lethal injection inhumane. Richard Cooey, 41, had argued in numerous legal challenges that his weight problem would make it difficult for prison staff to find suitable veins to deliver the deadly chemicals, a problem that delayed previous executions in the state. There were no such difficulties, said Larry Greene, a
  14. And Obama wants health care for the ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!!
  15. Well, if a bale of money falls from the sky at my feet before Nov. 4, I'll go GOP all the way!
  16. I am going to vote my interests, and since I do not make more than $250,000, I guess that means I vote for Obama.
  17. Yes. They use Revelation to scare the shit out of people and coax them into giving them money.
  18. I took it, but I forgot which one I am, so I will just go with GOAT.
  19. I know. One hair follicle with a DNA sequence would be all it would take. But the sasquatches are just too damn clever, or maybe they never shed.
  20. Well, better to lose one now and get it out of the way.
  21. What's unfair is making people work like that, especially people doing serious shit like doctoring. What's the logic of that, anyway?
