  1. Thought I'd add this to the discussion:
  2. I am beginning to get that "watching your favorite pet getting slowly strangled before your eyes" feeling about the Mets.
  3. I have a pretty clear recollection of Mexico offering clean drinking water.
  4. Do they not have those U.S. map puzzles any more? God, I'm pretty sure my nephew has one. I know he has a globe.
  5. Aww. CB's impact on our culture cannot be overstated. Spent a few memorable evenings there myself back in the day.
  6. I think there are some people who certainly deserve the death penalty, but since our legal system is far from perfect, it can't be an option. You imprison someone erroneously, you can let him out if the error is discovered. You execute somebody erroneously, it can't be undone.
  7. Can we bring in the part where we discuss how some parts of the crime rate have fallen since abortion has been legalized?
  8. Vibes, please, for the dead, the still-suffering and for all of us in this troubled land. Katrina amplifies troubles that exist in your town, too By RON FOURNIER Associated Press Writer NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Katrina is old news, right? New Orleans _ who cares? It's just another big city with big problems, bad luck and bad weather. Get over it. Actually, please don't. Don't ever get over the tragedy of New Orleans. It's your tragedy, too. What happened to this historic city two years ago is more than the obvious cautionary tale of what might befall your community after a natural disast
  9. My take on it is as soon as the sperm leaves the male, the male could get hit by a bus/fall in a well/high-tail it to another state and that baby is still coming. I'm not saying the dad should have no say, but he should not have the final say.
  10. Buddha Gets a Biopic By THE NEW YORK TIMES Born into a princely family in the sixth century B.C. in Kapilavastu on the border between present-day India and Nepal, Gautama Buddha abandoned luxury for spiritual enlightenment. Now the life of this man, who founded Buddhism, will be the subject of a film, Agence France-Press reported. Based on research by the Sri Lankan scholar Nimal D
  11. Zero, but please, no medals. I don't get out that much.
  12. I believe in compromise, but I'm not sure one can be found on this matter. I also think that it's an issue that no MAN should really have a say on, as we do not have uteri. OUR choice is whether we put a condom on. After ejaculation, our point of view is substantially less important.
  13. Sorry, Nat. I still stand by my belief that forcing a woman to have a child she does not want to have is an unacceptable infringement of human rights, and the rights of an already-born person trump those of one who hasn't been born yet.
  14. You don't? Hmm. That would seem contrary to a lot of the rhetoric evangelicals are constantly spouting.
  15. Dude, being pissed off at the people who hit your car does not make one a racist. That's a perfectly understandable reaction. One's prejudices may inflame one's anger past the point it would be at otherwise.
  16. I know how to kill this thread. This is going to hurt me about as much as it hurts you, Thread. Talking Points The Terrible, Horrible, Urgent National Disaster That Immigration Isn't By LAWRENCE DOWNES Part 1: What's Wrong With 'Getting Tough on Immigration' I. Immigration, Oversimplified The arguments made by hard-line critics of immigration reform are depressingly simple, which makes them simply depressing. They boil down to this: the immigration problems we have today, and a vast array of other problems, begin and end with immigrants themselves, the people who have committed the o
  17. That, and they can make a lot more money here than they can down here, so much so that it's likely a significant slice of the Mexican GDP. Thus the problem.
  18. Man, am I glad I grew up in suburbia.
  19. "Too Far Apart" just came up on my shuffle. This album rules.
  20. I was going to mark Sept. 11, 2002, by joining the Green Party, but then I didn't.
  21. I would agree. I think we on the left have damaged ourselves by generally acting like GOPers are uncool, rather than arguing about ideas.
