  1. I find your lack of faith disturbing.
  2. Bonds was incredibly gifted, but, like Anakin Skywalker, it wasn't enough for him.
  3. The Brady-to-Moss connection may be unbeatable this year.
  4. New England looked very good. I like the Chargers' new uniforms.
  5. I have that book, but have not read it yet. I keep getting distracted by books about the Byzantine Empire and World War I naval battles.
  6. Greetings. I live in Hyde Park now, but Das Heimat is the north side/Fairview section. If anyone asks where I'm from, I usually just say "the next town up the line from Poughkeepsie." Nobody has made a joke about it to me in a long time, which is a good thing, because if they did, I would have to challenge them to a duel. And, I would give quite a bit for an mp3 of that old song, "Poughkeepsie, City of Sin."
  7. 1. I voted for him. It didn't make a lick of difference - Gore won N.Y. easily - but my mom still holds me responsible for Bush being president. 2. Vanishing Point and American Movie are both in my personal Top 10. 3. The new 3:10 to Yuma is pretty good. We saw it at the Death Star Theater, but it would be a perfect drive-in movie.
  8. It's a perception thing and related to the Protestant work ethic. Many, if not most, baseball fans are revulsed to varying degrees by ballplayers using chemicals that seem to unnaturally enhance their baseball skills. By unnaturally, I mean a skills enhancement that over and above what would be expected from a diligent workout program and eating properly - both things that normal people struggle with. If an athlete, through attaining a level of self-denial and discipline which most of us fall far short of, does great things, we love him or her almost to death. If an athlete takes an undiscipli
  9. There is a certain respect we have for one another, which is engendered by the realization that we are all actual human beings and not robots programmed to type things in on the Internet. In these parts, you can't abuse people and expect it to go unchallenged.
  10. Wow. That's grown-up stuff, there. Hope it all works out OK. What was the guy doing that he had to leave his kids alone for that long of a time?
  11. He is on a very short list of people I would kill on sight.
  12. Honestly, I don't think anyone really gives a shit about what was legal when or not. If your name is linked to these substances, your rep is ruined. Timing might save you from going to jail, but your honor and integrity are lost, perhaps forever.
  13. The lie is that what seemed like a story of a scrappy washed-up pitcher, who, through hard work and determination, got back to the majors as the second coming of Babe Ruth. That story makes us feel good, as it shows that hard work and determination is rewarded. To find out that a substance in ill repute, whether it was legal or not at the time - was involved in the equation shows that the fix is in and cheaters prosper. Particularly in a town like St. Louis, which had to go through all this with McGwire.
  14. Ah. I didn't stay for the credits that time.
  15. Didn't he end up doing him/her anyway? So what kind of sad ending is that?
  16. Well, it's never good when a feel-good story turns out to be based upon a lie.
  17. Meh. The FFs have always left me a bit cold.
  18. Hope you have a great night! What is a "metal burger"?
  19. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. We are not terribly posterish here in the PKNY, and there was no problem selling tickets to that show.
  20. I will check the math and get back to you.
  21. Any mention of the Beatles stuff?
