Somehow, I don't think the French would really get Wilco. Germany is, I would think, the richest and most populous country in western Europe, so I'm not surprised they play a lot of gigs there. Also, there are a lot more Americans in Germany than in other European countries, as we seem to have pretty much permanently moved in since arriving in 1945.

Yep. There's a thread of Anglo-German stoicism running through my family that makes it an inadmissible sign of weakness to seek psychological help. It couldn't be more wrong, but it's something I've never been able to get out of my programming, even though I could probably use some now and again.

No. I edited a police page in the same state for seven years. What happened to him is consistent with what generally happens to people in his situation with few or no previous priors. As long as he stays clean and makes his court dates, that'll be the end of it. If he doesn't, he could face having to do some time. Yeah, really.

Look what Marv Albert went through, and now he's working again. So Al Sharpton won one. Give the man his due; he knows how to act offended on someone else's behalf better than perhaps anyone else in America. I still respect the Rev. Jackson, though. He's done far more good in the world - and in person is a terrific speaker - than Al Sharpton may ever do.
